NatWest Student Account 2008-09: A Guide

I just rang up NatWest to request the overdraft for my 1st year and she said that it'd take 72 WORKING hours to process my application. She said this was because I'm a new borrower and she needs to fax the application to Head Office.
Is this correct, I've not heard of other people going through this process? Seems a bit strange for a student?0 -
My son opened his account at a branch last friday - so a whole week ago- and the account still hasn't been set up. He already had a natwest account, so it should have been easy to do. No welcome pack or cheque book etc have arrived at the branch yet.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. was wondering i could open the student account and only have my salary go into it instead of my student loan because i like to keep them seperate, is this possible and do i still get the overdraft. i have read the t&c's online and it says my salary can go in as a source of funding but can i do this?0 -
Is there anywhere on the Natwest website that details the eligibility for a student account. I'm doing a one year PGCE which according to details posted here qualifies, but I have heard from people who have had real problems getting an account opened.0

also, what type of debit card do u get? or is it just a cash card? Thanks
should be 5 working days(1 week). Pop into the branch and ask. THe card will have to be activated for a PIN number to be produced.0 -

New account.
Hopefully its just a matter of time as his friend did the same three days ahead of him and his pack and account stuff was ready for collection today.
He was given the letter with his account details on the day of the appointment and has had a letter about online banking. He just needs the online banking PIN number to arrive in the post and for the cheque book, switch card and welcome pack to arrive at the branch. The CA in the branch checked today and the the pack hadn't arrived. Bit of a pain as he's off on holiday this weekend and won't have much time before uni to collect stuff when he returns.
As he already has his account number, he was able to tell the student loan company what his account number will be, so no great concern as he doesn't need actually need access to the account for 2 weeks. Would have been a problem if he needed to access his (approved) overdraft before then!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
