Apparently it is acceptable in the country he is from! I'm just glad we got the kittens away from where they were!

Which country is this, and where are the kitty photos?? I'm so glad they are now in a good home.

Hi, I was just wondering which cleaning products are safe to use around kittens?

I usually use stardops, zoflora, bleach and an anti-bacterial spray, eg dettol. Is this safe? What products do you use?

Apologies if this seems like a daft question, it's just that the kittens now have the run of downstairs and I'm about to mop the kitchen floor and don't want to poison them!

    Thanks x

I know it worked for you but I really wouldn't advise giving such young kittens tinned tuna. The sodium levels are far too high (too high even for an adult cat to eat regularly) and could damage their poor little kidneys. Best to stick to proper kitten food and mix it with water or kitten milk if necessary.

Phenol products (like dettol etc) can be pretty toxic to cats :( lots of household chemicals can be. There is a wealth of internet knowledge re toxic substances...
I don't think I have ever actually seen a case of phenol toxicity however have had a large number of cats be very ill (and quite a few actually die) from pyrethroid toxicity (this is in SOME dog flea control products, esp ones available in supermarkets :()
My most recent 2 fatalities the owners had not applied the dog one to the cat (very common despite warnings not to use on cats) but had both dogs and cats that snuggled up today... very sad :(

DO NOT use dettol or Zoflora!!!!

They contain a chemical (phenols) that cats and kittens can pick up through their paws. Rule of thumb is to not use any disinfectant that turns cloudy when you put it in water.

don't use dettol!! it is highly poisonous to puss cats.. savlon is ok though and pretty much the same.

Zoflora, stardrops and bleach are all ok.. well.. none of mine have been affected and I've had cats for years.. soon to be acquiring a new one if DS1's friend doesn't get on with her kitten.
