  • I went through More than for cat insurance for my 10 year old cat and got it for £4.20 a month which I thought was really good as I was quoted around £10 a month from other insurance companys because of her age. It is worth insuring your kitten now as my other dear cat had to be put to sleep in April after he was posioned and I didn't have him insured so I had a costly vet bill after 2 days of treatment - thats why I got my other cat insured (better being safe than sorry). If your a member of Quidco, there are pet insurance compamy`s on there and you`ll earn money back at the same time. As you will be insuring your kitten from an early age, it will be next to nothing to insure it.
  • Martin has a great thread on pet insurance - the best ones, and whether it is worth it (whether or not to 'self insure').....

Pound shops are great for toys, water bowls etc.....though don't get too many toys, as they are just as happy with a piece of wool, or a cardboard box (our cats fave toy EVER, and they have a fancy play thingy)

Worm right away with kitten wormer....you can but this cheaply at pet shops in the form on a solution which you put on their food. I also recommend frontline(for fleas), which is alot cheaper than it used to be - it is the best (you get it from the vets), and in this hot weather is worth it's wieght in gold.

Check the freebies section, as you can get loads of freebies from Whiskas, Purina etc....

Also, start them on cheap (but good) food, give them expensive tastes they'll turn their noses up at anything else. I personally can't speak highly enough of Aldis range......

WRT litter - the expensive ones are NOT worth buying - but the value one (I have found Tesco's value to be the best) - and change every day - taking poopies out as and when.....

And lastly - enjoy having your little kittie - they are wonderful to have around......
    Is it payday yet?

Remember kittens are either full of energy or asleep and their claws are like hypodermics so watch your legs!! I read somewhere a comment that having kittens is like having your house taken over by furry marine comandoes and i found that to be SO true. They are lovely though.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

I asked advice on here a few weeks ago about my addition to the family, think the thread was called 'getting a kitten in a few weeks- advice needed' and I got lots of helpful stuff.
I got my insurance with tesco and its £6pm
We have been through a few sorts of kitten food and the posher biscuits seemed to upset her stomach so she is on asda kitten biscuits and a mix of asda's wet kitten pouches and whiskas ones. She also didn't like the more expensive cat litter made from recycled newspaper so we use value litter and I change it every day.
Vets prices differ a bit too- I am trying to find a nicer vet as the first one I didn't like much then they cancelled the second jab appointment twice and sent us to a different branch which was a bit scummy.
Pets at Home are doing a free microchip with vaccination courses at the mo.

Hi I was interested to see that Pets at home are doing free microchip with vaccination courses. Do you know if this is still available as I've been on their website and can't find anything about this offer. Their is a pets at home shop near where I'm getting my kitten from in the next 2 weeks and I thought it would be great if I could get all this done for free. Do you just go in and ask? As I know the owner of the mother of the kitten, I could ask her to arrange this and she could get the rest of the litter vaccinated/chipped at the same time. Many thanks in advance.
  • my daughter uses the wood pellets for litter that you can buy from Pets at home

pets at home had the offer on a poster on the outside of the shop I went to yesterday, but I didn't ask about it as I have had jabs done and am waiting for my kitten to have her op and get the chip at the same time.
  • Hi Meeps. Thanks for that. I'll get the current owner to check that out for me. Many thanks again

    We got him yesterday :j

All's good so far, he's settled quickly, likes Felix kitten food and sleeps a lot .. oh and purrs and plays with shoeslaces.

He's a boy ........ grey ..... with four white legs, white under his chin and a couple of white daubs on his nose.

Thought a about Ziggy ( BigBro ) Izzy Smudge and some others but nothing seems ' right '.

    Any suggestions ?
