They are referring to the fact that a sole account has the same monthly charge as a joint account, yet with the joint account both account holders get the same level of cover; mobile phone insurance, travel insurance, breakdown cover etc. Essentially 2 for the price of 1.dollydoodah wrote: »Out of curiosity (as a Platinum account holder) would you care to enlighten us, please?Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right!

Indeed.
To start with, I was on the gold account at £10, and my OH was on platinum at £15. We had a joint classic account too.
The guys in branch switched our own accounts to classics, and the joint one to a Premier, so for the same money, we were getting the extra benefits. Two weeks later, our toilet overflowed.. the home emergency cover was VERY handy in saving us £200 in plumbers overnight callout charges!

plus staff members can get it half price.

There is no such criteria to have a PREMIER account? It is like someone who have a poor credit history accepted for PREMIER. This would be an insult to the customers who thought it reflect more on their status.
What the point lol.0 -
But surely anyone who pays purely for "status" shouldnt be on MSE?noah271007 wrote: »It is like someone who have a poor credit history accepted for PREMIER. This would be an insult to the customers who thought it reflect more on their status.0 -

Not necessarily! It depends whether it offer good value for money when you take into account additional extras with the account. In my case, i am with platinum and having previously had a travel insurance (family of 4), phone insurance seperately i actually save money over a year by a minimal amount. However the point is that if anyone can get a Platinum/Premier with £500 overdraft free interest and £250 cheque guarantee even with a poor credit history, then that is so stupid! They shouldn't be allowed to have credit facilities! I noted that to have 250CG and overdraft is subject to application and approval, so for those who have a decent credit history will get those credit facilities and those who don't qualify for one, will not get the platinum or premier card.0
