British Gas & Capping Clarifications.

I think the point is, when there are no capped options left (I could only find 1 this morning), then there is no point comparing companies until they have all announced their increases. Although BG may have hiked their price and all the others are sure to follow, as it stands at the moment it's not a level playing field. You can do a comparison today that could be out of date by the time you've organised a switch.
That's how I understand his comments anyway"Whatever happened to string?"0 -

I cannot speak for Martin, but my interpretation of what he's saying is as follows:
If you are with a supplier who has already increased their prices, there's little point in moving, until the supplier you intend to move to has also raised their prices.
This is because, you may find the new supplier you move to, has even larger price rises. You don't necessarily have to wait 3 months until all other suppliers have raised their prices, but moving to another provider who's yet to announce rises, puts you at their mercy.
If this is for a capped or fixed tariff, you are likely to have a tie in period, meaning you cannot then get out without paying an exit fee.0 -
You are aware that a change in supplier isn't instant? It takes around 5-6 weeks to change which when you've eventually changed you might not be better off anyway so ride it out for the next 3-4 weeks and see what happens across the market.:beer:0

however first of all my apologies I searched for my original post and couldnt find it
but if I switch to another company I avoid the bgas price rise see bgas' (terms and conditions) and the supplier I switch too changes my prices in the period of transition I only have 28 days with them at the old pices so I can switch as often as I like and end up with cheapest deal each time till all the companies have put the prices up.
its like stoozing but with energy companies.
nothing stopping me doing that or anyone doing that in fact it mighy show bgas edf et al that the public wont hang around waiting to have the cash lifted from the collective wallets.0 -
go for one of the sign online deals which is 30% cheaper than the capped options anyway and this means you will probably break even with the price rises
capping is not really worth it now0 -
Nuts, that'll teach me to be impatient. I was on Click 5 and moved to Fixed Price 2011
Don't worry,, as with all contracts,, you will have a cooling off period,, ring BG and TELL them you would like to cancel,,
you may have to put this in writing, if this is the case send your letter recorded delivery,, not often they "get lost".. should reinstate you on your old tariff...0 -

My worry is though that if I do that, I end up missing out once the Click 5 tariff changes. While its still summer, its not a huge deal to be on the 2011 tariff and pay a few pennies more. Its winter than concerns me more.
Still think I should change back?0 -

What so bg's click5 tariff isn't due to be increasing its rates just yet?
Worth switching to from SE's Pricefix 2008?0 -

That is surely just a tactic to drag as many people onto their internet based Click 5 as they can get, and then they will put it up in a few weeks.0
