HI, if you look on https://www.thingimijigs.co.uk in the baby/ christening section there are a couple of things I think are great (taking on board what others said about silver etc)

first is a personalised CD that you can get with the childs name sung through it, - I have these for my kids and they love hearing their name (at 6 months old this will help with the childs recognition)

secondly there are 2 keepsake boxes, (pink/ blue), we had a naming ceremony rather than christening, and have filled them with things from their birth, and around that time, they will then get to keep them on their 18th birthday, (if I can bear to hand the memories over)

also - use code NCT in the coupon box and get 10% off the total - I got the leaflet from an NCT fair

    hope this helps

I agree with Counting Pennies. Book Books and more Books. You can never have too many books. You could get them a few books and an WHSmith or Amazon.co.uk (if they do that) Voucher.

I was given a tree for my christening 30 years ago. When I moved house I took it with me. It is now growing proudly in my front garden. It looks more beautiful and impressive with each passing year. Wish I could say the same for me!

How about a book or a collection of books.

I have copied a suggestion below. But what I am starting to do, now I have a child of my own, I have realised that useful items are so much better than a silver spoon that will get stuffed in a cupboard.

I am now starting to give a book as a Christening pressie (something classical) and write in the front cover an inscription to the child for the christening day, and in the card I write that this is the start of a tradition that I intend to buy a new exciting book each Christmas and Birthday that I have read to my child and know which ones they enjoy.

The red house is a great place to get these books at a good price.

    Hope this helps
I agree that a nice book could be a really good idea. The top link given by counting pennies is for a winnie the pooh collection with the classic e h sheperd ( sp) illustrations , a really lovely suggestion. If you buy this through the book people , who are connected to redhouse books and use code free05 you could have a lovely present for £9.99 as postage will be free and you can use your computer to make a personalised 'book plate' for the front :D
Nothing in it, nothing in it but a ribbon round it .....

in it's simplest terms a 'non christian christening'.

    http://www.civilceremonies.co.uk/naming.htm

Each non christian religion has it's own name for the ceremony and people who are not religious can have their chilren named by persons from the humane society.

I also believe that register offices are fgetting in ont he act and offering to do ceremonies for children
google "naming ceremony" and whatch how many civil ceremonies come up.
