great deal that it wont let me have!!!

cant get the free broadband in my area so it wont let me buy the package!!

Stupid thing is if you dont have their broadband for FREE, you dont get the half price offer for three months and you miss out on the £100 cahsback deal:(

I'd be happy to have the package without getting the actual braodband with the £100 cashback deal. As it is I'm going to miss out unless I can think of a clever way of getting them to accept me on the package without supplying the actual broadband.

As far as I can see they aren't making any money from me having the broadband, so if they put me on the deal and didn't give me it, would they be losing out too?

There are catches in their favour.

You have to pay £30 connection fee, and when customers get "free" broadband, then they are tied in for 18 months. (Normal non broadband contracts are 12 months).

The "free" label is misleading as the broadband is part of a voice/broadband package which they can only provide if their equipment is in your exchange. Otherwise they have to buy both from BT and resell to you.

This happened to me too. Don't know what area you are in, I'm in Haworth, Yorkshire.

It's NOT FAIR that all the populated money areas get everything.

I absolutely agree with this. I live in Shropshire and we keep being promised our broadband will be cheaper once the line is unbundled, but there's been no sign of this happening. What's really annoying is that we live up the road from (I think) the biggest call centre in the UK - but because it's a rural area we still get rubbish service, and have to pay more for the priviledge! All the time we hear about funding for a million different things going to cities, where they already have far more choice than we do in rural areas.

Ok, that came out very bitter :) I do understand that places with a larger population should come first, it would just be nice if other places came somewhere, instead of getting forgotten about completely.

I'd be surprised if there were to be honest mate, they're offering this deal to attract customers, not for the love of handing out free stuff, and with them already giving £100 cashback I've got to think that their margins are going to be fairly tight anyway.
Of course if anyone *does* find a work around, please, *do* share! :D

All understood and agreed. Its a little frustrating though that because I cant access the FREE broadband, I have to pay more.

In short if you have the means to receive the free broadband, then they'll charge you LESS money for signing with them  Surely a doube bonus.

OK that makes sense. If the equipment isnt in my exchange and it will cost them more, then I guess there's nowt to be done.

Tiscali are exactly the same except they advertise it as you pay for the broadband but get "free" line rental and calls.
Take out the "free" bit from both ISPs advertising and substitute "cheap". It's less appealing but nearer the truth.

  • Hello MSE-ers. I went for this TalkTalk('TT') deal, signed up online a couple of days ago via Quidco, cashback's now showing up. I sent a notice of cancellation to my current provider (Toucan) who rang up last night offering £14.99 per month for the same service as TT (8Mb broadband, unlimited evening & weekend calls & line rental) plus 3 months free if we signed up for another 12 months which equates to £11.24 per month. We didn't have to haggle or anything and accepted it straightaway! Now cancelled our TalkTalk application.

One word of warning about TalkTalk, if you do go with them and later want to return to a BT line or another provider who uses the BT line (TalkTalk doesn't use BT for these cheap deals due to LLU (Local Loop Unbundling?)) it can allegedly cost upwards of £100 to get yourself back onto the BT system. I think I've read somewhere that if you join Sky after TalkTalk however that Sky will pay for the reconnection to BT.

Hope this helps anyone considering it, might be worth a call to your current provider threatening to cancel, see if they'll match TT?
