What are essentials? New house, new car, two holidays per year for the rest of your life, ....

See your point, but my personal essentials right now are getting my 13 year old banger through the MOT. Perhaps a better use of the money would be to buy a new car, but that would be beyond my morals.

  • Sorry to say that I'd keep it in most circumstances. Unless she was dressed in rags and obviously much poorer than me. But then she wouldn't spend £1 on a lottery ticket if she was in that state would she?

  • All depends on circumstances.

If I spotted it on the floor while the person was in the lift, I would pick it up and give it back to the person.

If the person leaves the lift and I then find it, I would go to local police station and make sure they log it and give receipts and everything. 2 Months later its legally mine anyway. Im not running around a shopping centre to try and find one person in thousands.

Whenever I find money in the street, anything over a fiver I will hand in to local police. If its never claimed I will normally give 50% of what I find into a charity pot on the police counter. (Police orphans/Widows etc) as I am already 50% up as it is.
At work if we find any money we have to wait 3 months and then we only get half of it back and the company keeps half and it goes into their already obscene profits.
If A customer finds money they get all of it back after 3 months.

  • I certainly wouldn't steal it, I would do my utmost to get it back to her and "think lucky" next time I bought a lottery ticket.

    No I wouldn't keep it.

However if the lady was fast on her feet (as I'm not at the moment!) and I couldn't catch her, I would post it to the National Lottery HQ explaining how and where I found it and hope she see's the appeal. If she doesn't and it goes to good causes, then I would not feel bad, as I would like to think I did everything possible, and I didn't profit from her misfortune.

The clue is in the question.
She gets out at the next floor, and you notice its fallen from her bag and on the floor, as the door closes.

If you're the only one in the lift, you would have to go up to whatever floor you set the lift to, then set it to go back to that floor, and get out, though the woman would have moved out of view by then, and you wouldn't have an easy way to find her. It would take even longer to get back to that floor if there were others on the lift.

I would continue my shopping as normal. If I saw her while I was shopping, I'd give it back. If I didn't, then I would keep it.
  • i would like to say that i would keep it but i wouldn't. i could only imagine how gutted i would be if it happened to me:A
  • It's Ok To Think That We Are All Good People And That We Would All Do The Right Thing, but The Reality Is We Don't Know What We Would Do ,because We Haven't Found Ourselves In That Situation.if You Were Staring At A Million Pound Ticket You Might Have Different Views.i Bet If People Were Really Honest They Would Keep It.i Know I Would.i Wouldn't Lose The Ticket In The First Place It Would Be Kept Under Lock And Key.
