Money Moral Dilemma. Would you keep the lottery ticket?

This reminds me of a time, about ten years ago, when I found a lottery ticket inside a library book. It must have been kept there, as a (too) safe place.
Well . . . I looked up the numbers and lo!! . .There were winning numbers on it!!
Pity they were all on different lines . .
. . but who's to know that the ticket the woman dropped was a winning one anyway? You'd feel pretty foolish taking it to the till in anticipation, only to be given a pitying look from the till assistant . .. . . there's debt you have to pay, and debt you can get away with . . know the difference . . they can't hang you for it!!!0 -
i would give it back and feel great for having done so0

It's not always perfect around here but I know of one example where cash was sat in the output of an ATM for so long whilst people tried to find out who had forgotten to take it, that the machine eventually pulled it back in.
Between those and people who would take it and run off, I know who give me more faith in humanity.
People who take it because they're cynical and think "well other people would take it" seem to be the biggest part of the problem!0 -
Like some people have been saying if I had seen her drop it when she is about then I would give it to her.
If she is long gone then no I would keep it as it will be a harsh lesson for her to learn to look after her belongings.
It is the same as if I found it on a street I would keep it as it is someones mistake they need to learn from. Sure it is annoying but so is life sometimes!! :-)Date I decided to clear my debt: 03/12/08
Debt started with: Loan - 2195, Credit Card - 1738, Interest free overdraft -500 = TOTAL - 4433
Current Debt: Loan - 0, Credit Card 1 - 1346, Credit Card 2 - 906 Interest free overdraft -0 = TOTAL - 22520 -
I think the best thing to do would be to contact the Lotto HQ, to say you have found the winning ticket, and would be able to identify the winner if she came forward.........if she didn't then its yours! (If she did i'd hope for a nice reward)
Honesty Pays!0 -
If you did take it and run she could have bought it online with a debit card so it would be traceable.. as would the same numbers every week.
The really unscrupulous would keep it until close to the dead line and contact a tabloid, get a few quid for a story and may be some of the winnings as 'reward'.
Give it back though. Despite being immoral you could end up with more anxiety than it was worth.0 -
Can anyone tell me how you are supposed to prove the purchase of a lottery ticket if you don't buy it online but at a newsagent? I can't remember ever having got a receipt for buying a lotto ticket, and you are not required to put your name on it somewhere.Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH0 -
would have to go after her and give it back whether it be £1 or £1,000,000 what goes around comes around
Karma! I agree
I have found 2 wallets in the last 2 weeks - handed them both in.
And good stuff has happened to me in the last week:cool:I am NOT a Woman! - its Overland Landy (as in A Landrover that travels Overland)
Better to be approximately right than precisely wrong.0 -

Retailers have a unique number on the ticket also if you can say what day and time you bought it and the numbers you selected. You should be in with a good chance - hopefully.
Lucky dip might be harder but if you can remember one or two numbers you would increase your chance.
Don't know what Camelot's policy is on this though.
Never heard of anyone getting rumbled for cashing in a lottery ticket that wasn't theirs though - which I find quite surprising.0 -
I'd be tempted to keep it. I admit it. But I wouldn't be able to live with myself.0
