    Hi Katy
My Regional Manager recommends that if you are arranging a shopping evening you advertise it as a Body Shop exclusive so have no other stalls there. You do it as one big party but use the make over as a raffle prize. If you pick a charity and do it as a fundraiser you are more likely to attract people, say that you will donate x% after the first £200 that way you will make at least £50. She says that as long as its well planned it is the best way to make money from a shopping evening as you have everyones attention just for BS. She knows other AMs that have done it and made lots so if its something you can arrange its worth doing.

Pandapop's right, a small event where you are the only or one of the only stalls there would be better. I did what was called a gift and craft fair with 20 other stallholders and I made nothing and got no interest at all, even thought I had a huge display with loads of stuff for sale too. I found the events on Stallfinder.com but to organise your own just find a venue and do your thing!
I got no party bookings at my last event as there were no customers really and the few there were I chatted to and gave out samples but they were not at all interested.

I too got no bookings from my first parties as they were all friends and family. I'm hoping that my first party for strangers next monday goes better, the hostess did a party over £400 last year but I don't know if any of her friends book a party. I will mention the £10 offer in host coaching and on the day, also show around the booking gift I made up and talk about the 20% off. I won't have a lot of time to book people in to though, if the party is on December 1st, but some people may be able to fit one in before xmas.

The pamper evening is going ahead tonight, apparently there are posters in a few shops, as far as I can gather this is the only advertising that's been done!
I will offer the hand massages for free to get people sitting down, at least they may buy some of my stock, which I will be selling at the 20% off so not making a lot of money but at least I'll be rid of it!
If you are doing an event that's just bodyshop you won't need to buy anything in to sell, I only did because several people who go to these kind of things told me that I would need some things to sell on the day if everyone else was selling goods.

Wow, what a long post. I'm off to look at a house later (hopefully). For some reason I thought it's be a good idea to move by Christmas!

Hopefully will get two lots of the Nov sales promo and giving my manager one if i do!

If people cancel on you try and get another confirmed date or give them some catalogues and explain they can still get the free shopping and host exclusives if they get some sales at work or from friends.

My best friend couldn't hold a party in her place so I offered mine!!

I also put a classified ad on eBay and on my local Netmums site.

Try local offices or schools. Print some business cards off and give to everyone you see.

    Hope this helps....
  • Thanks for the advice, think i'm gonna give my shopping evening a go but i'll probably find it quite nerve racking doing it by myself!! I have a friend really interested in joining actually so maybe she could come help me so I can show her how it's done (and for a bit of support for me!) i passed her details on to my manager a week ago and was hoping she'd have rung her by now as she wants to join before xmas (and of course i want my black make up box) but so far she hasn't been in touch with her! Usually she is dead keen with recruits, when i enquired on the net she rang me the very same day!

Anywho...i need ways to make money before xmas, other than at regular parties, leopardlady i see u went into an office (congrats on the sales there bet u were well pleased)...i'd love to try selling this way but don't think i'd be very convincing as i'm a bit shy, and i don't know what kind of offices to try, any ideas or tips??

    xx

Hi Cherrypie, I may be getting confused but how did you manage to offer 45% off to your friends? If I work it out right, we get 25% commission on sales, after the 20% has been taken off. So even if you give all your commission your friends will still not get 45% off.
    For example
    an item was originally £10
after the 20% discount it now costs £8
you get 25% commission on this which means you are paying £6 for it. That's a 40% discount on the original price of £10.

    (I think)
Sorry, I don't want to seem patronising but I didn't want you to be losing money without realising.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, I thought we got commission on the new prices, if not then that's great!
