Hi there, I got through on the 3rd attempt this morning. I echo Gary's advice - just keep holding!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

I phoned on Tuesday morning and got through to them straight away, did have to hang on a few minutes to speak to someone but wasn't too bad at all. I gave them my updated income details and hopefully they are due us money as our income has substantially dropped. They never tell you over the phone which is annoying, just tell you to wait for your award notices in the post.0

I'm trying to avoid using 0845, 0870 numbers where possible.
Here's an alternative phone number I've just used to phone HM Revenue & Customs Working and Child Tax Credits Helpline.
For 0845 300 3900 use 01355 359007
Thanks to https://www.saynoto0870.com :beer:0 -
Thats the number i used as well , apparently its the NATIONAL tc number.
I used it without having to hold at all , my call was answered immediately BUT there have been others on the board who have dialled that number and been "told off" by the answering advisor so must just depend on who answers your call.

Thanks for posting the number, I just used it too and was answered straight away.
However I was told off for using it as it is designated for international callers only!
I managed to renew my award and also notify of changes, however the chap was very impatient with me after I had called the wrong number!IAAR/IAAMM/MFTMFAQ/IOA6BH0 -
I have used it a few times-sometimes they will help, sometimes they will just tell me to call back on main number0

Thanks all, the lady I spoke to was very helpful and I didn't have any problems.
Still worth a go IMHO.0 -
It is just drives me mad .
It is more than a week since I am trying to get to tax credits helpline to report a change in my circumstances and is imposible to get through.
I am trying the 0845 300 3900 and the furthest I managed to get was to the point where they said " make sure you have your employer tax number or adress " after that I get the message " Sorry that we are very busy blah blah " and then it hangs up.
All this week I could not even managed to get through the options anymore
all I get is " Welcome to Tax Credits Helpline " and then the " Sorry we extremely busy .
I have tried to called them at different times of day 8 AM , 10 AM , 12 AM
afternoon , evenings and still no luck.
I went to saynoto0870 and tried the 01355 359007 and 028 9053 8192 with the same results .
Am I the unluckiest one around ? How other people manage to get hold on them ?0 -
I got through today with only a small delay...whole call was 10 minutes (I have a minute minder on my handset)...I was renewing but the man that took my call said he was dealing with enquiries and renewing.
That was at 2pmish0 -
I usually find them fairly quick to answer, and helpful, but perhaps there's a busy period right now with renewals for the new financial year.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
