Driving with expired MOT !!!
Can anyone point me in the right direction here...
My daughter was stopped by the boys in blue Sat night and it turns out her MOT expired last Monday !! She thought it was August but that was her insurance (I know, no excuses). They gave her a producer for 7 days and I'm hoping to get her booked in for the test tues/wed and she won't be using the car til it's done.
Can anyone tell what fine etc she's likely to get when she produces the new certificate ?

small fine, no points, you could try a sob story but frankly they knew when they stopped her it had run out.0

Really try hard to find a "while you wait" MOT station and get in there on Monday, or find one with a free slot for Monday. Wherever you go you must ask them to note your registration number that you are coming for a test.
Hopefully the deskclerk at the police station will not check the date of issue. But if they do check, she might just get a caution or a fixed penalty - £60. It's likely the officers will have made a note that they thought the MOT was expired, so the deskclerk is likely to look very carefully at the documents..................Othersise she will be looking at a court appearance and a possible fine, no points will be given, it's only a fineable offence Max fine £1000.
Court Costs and Victims Payment - which I think is going to be about £50 to £100 + £20 respectively.
She might get a conditional discharge or a fine anywhere between £60 - £200. She will not be fined £1000 or anything like it.0 -

People who are not responsible enough to keep important things like insurance and MOT's intact cannot be trusted to drive
and before we get the usual "there human" , "people forget etc"
They could also forget to do something significant behind the wheel which could have fatal consequences
Having all your paperwork in order certainly does not mean you're a good driver, either.0 -

She forgot her MOT date by a week, big deal, it doesn't mean for one moment that the car is not roadworthy
OP - Get the car to a local mot place, you should be able to find one with a slot tomorrow, and get it moted and produce the new certificate.0 -
I agree, you get no reminders for an MOT. My tax, MOT and insurance are all due at all different times,
Off to check if mine is due soon, I can never remember either!0 -
As a vehicle owner and as such need to ensure it's kept road legal, why pass the buck and blame someone else for not reminding you?
Feeble response.
You don't forget peoples phone numbers/birthdays/anniversaries... ah yes they are written down as a reminder.
Not difficult to synchronize your MOT/TAX/Insurance so they are all in the same month.

I have never heard such nonsense in all my life! You might as well say that as your spelling and grammar are incorrect that you too might be a danger behind the wheel!
I really do not see the need for you to write such a spiteful comment when some-one has posted on here hoping for help and advice. I hope that people will be more tolerant of you when you make a mistake.Oooooooohhhh wrote: »Hopefully a big one

I think the best thing is to have MOT shortly after Insurance, so you are reminded by the insurance and have those two significantly far away from the tax renewal, so it doesn't all hit the bank in the same quarter.0
