lol I just googled 'things to do with swedes' and you guessed correct, it thought I meant people from sweden!
I tried turnips after that but not much appeared. Sorry.
I like to eat raw turnip but not many do .
Only thing I can think of is mash, maybe a little in soup ?

lol, what did it tell you to do with people from sweden then?

I put half a swede in my lentil soup, is yummy.

For those of you who have managed to grow tomatoes but they will not ripen I have a sugestion that we use to do when I was a kid - *** years ago.

Check the green toms making sure that they are as perfect as pos. Then wrap each one in a paper hankie and put them in a plasic box, old marg tubs used to do fine. Just nestle them in until the box is full, put the lid on and put them in cool place, a cupboard will do.

Then you just check them every few days and take out those that are ripe and put the others back. Any that go off just take out and bin, as they are wrapped individually they tend to not spread the lurgy.

They last for ages like this as they retain the moisture. If you leave them in the sun they tend to do wrinkly, though they do ripen more quickly. You might find that they last for quite a long time (we nearly got to Xmas one year).

Ooh, thanks for that. I will definitely try it as I'm despairing of ever having my tomatoes ripen. :A

 How on earth do you manage that. I try to never waste food and actually do a reasonably good job of that but I still manage to spend about £400 a month - tell me the secrets!! I don't think that we are that extravagant we do baked potatoes and tuna sweetcorn pasta most weeks. Oh by the way Tesco special on pampers nappies two large packs for £13.50. I thought that was a great offer!
Its nice that someone thinks that as I think we could do alot better as we waste quite a bit :o But we do use alot of value stuff, and I buy alot of fruit and veg at local shop as its cheaper :T Otherwise I really don't know what we do, I tend do buy nappies at boots.com when they are on offer/large boxes £10 etc and then give extra points so I then get loads of boots points for some baby stuff/toiletries/gifts etc
I also try and use coupons when I go shopping for real even if I don't buy that product (this month we got £10 voucher from Coke as we made a complaint and Tesco took this off our shopping even though we didn't spend that much on Coke :T)
Anyway sorry to waffle, I would like to get it back down to £200 (back in Jan before baby born this was our spend) but the prices have gone up so much I am finding it harder, so tend to meal plan around offers

  • As for christmas, I have quite a few pressies stashed away ;) and usually my parents buy the food as I cook it :T I usually spend a bit more but I start doing it and stocking up in oct/nov too. I never use them saving cards but may well do that this year, if I get round to it ;)
Will start to make cards soon I think

    Evening!

Another two NSDs for me--even tho me muvva tried really hard to persuade me to go shopping I seriously couldn't think of a single thing we NEEDED--so guess it must have been something along with the nip in today's air :D

Part of me is wishing I wasn't so keen to declare, cuz the skuzzers haven't paid the offspring today either  I thought it was a Condition of Employment Law SIZE=1]or whatever they want to call it these days![/SIZE that if your Bank Transfer Pay is due on a weekend or Bank Holiday, you were supposed to get paid the Friday before :confused:There's an awful lot of employers who should treat their staff a damned sight better than they do...haven't we got enough to contend with......

Sorry :o --didn't mean to go O/T, but truth be told I may not have had a CHOICE about shopping this morning had I not gathered so many tips from these threads, so for that alone, I thank each & every one of you.

ok, another £16.06 to add to my overspend but in my defence it was on things that I noticed on the shop but don't drop thread and on here - Mr T things like the Sunpat peanut butter for 56p (got 2 - make sure it's the cheap one on offer - extra smooth or something), canned stiry fry veg for 5p and a 4p can of curry sauce just as a standy. Needed some more fruit and also basics like toilet rolls. Also got 2 x their lean steak mince (freezer) which someone said was reduced to 99p and their frozen lambs liver which was 47p per pack. Although most of this stuff will be used in September, it's too complicated for me to adjust budgets so am happy for this to go in August. The freezer is packed full now - yippee.
Off to read through the thread and see what you clever people are up to
    Take care
