cheers raskazz !!
glad you are not shooting at me defending TESCO .
Ok ! But i do not want to have any policy with TESCO after the apalling level of customer service i have had.
Maybe i can settle the total loss with the remaining premium and the cost of the Car Wash Kit woth £100 they should have given me. (that was the offer at that time).
Anyways thanks mate. . .
OK, let's go back to basics here (and I don't mean Tesco Value).- Insurance is a contract.
- That contract is legally binding on both parties.
- The terms of the contract are available before the commencement date of the contract (you can phone them and ask them for a copy of the policy).
- Once you have agreed to commence the contract, the insurer is obliged under the terms of the Road Traffic Act and the regulations set out by the FSA to send you the policy in good time and a Certificate of Motor Insurance.
- If you don't agree with anything in the policy, you have 14 days to send everything back and ask for a FULL refund.
- One of the terms of the contract is that if they pay out for a claim, the policy is deemed "spent". This means that regardless of whether you continue to renewal or cancel mid term, the FULL PREMIUM IS DUE TO THE INSURER FROM YOU.
- If you decide to replace your car, most contracts have a clause to say that they will continue the policy as if it was a simple change of vehicle; ie, only charge you for the difference in price between your old car and the new one.
There are 4 types of motor insurance available:- Road Traffic Act Cover - I haven't seen one of these policies since the late 80's, when they were reserved for the drink drivers who had just got their licence back; it means you are only insured for what the RTA requires and nothing more.
- Third Party Only - You are insured for any damage that you do and the insurer will also provide you with a defence if someone tries to sue you for something you didn't do.
- Third Party Fire & Theft - As above, but they will also pay out if your car is stolen or bursts into flames
- Comprehensive - All of the above, but also cover for damage to your car in a road traffic accident or by an unknown party.
Here's the 2 important facts:- There is no such thing as FULLY COMPREHENSIVE; the cover is COMPREHENSIVE and the exact limits differ from policy to policy.
- Anying other than damage to your car, covering your legal liabilities and entering a defence for you is ADD ONS!!
WHEN YOU ASKED FOR A COMPREHENSIVE POLICY, YOU GOT ONE!! THE FACT THAT IT DOES NOT MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS AFTER THE EVENT IS DOWN TO YOU NOT READING YOUR POLICY DOCUMENTS WHEN YOU GOT THEM!!!
YOU HAVE NO LEGAL LEG TO STAND ON!! IT'S 100%, ABSOLUTELY AND COMPLETELY, WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT, INCONTROVERTABLY.....
YOUR OWN FAULT!!!!!!!!!
Here endeth the sermon and we shall now stand to sing "All things bright and beautiful".In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
This thread is a classic example of what price comparison websites and sites like this one (MSE) have done to motor insurance.
Up until 3 years ago insurers were generally falling over themselves to differentiate their product on things like customer service, courtesy cars, selective underwriting (esure) etc.
Now though, nothing matters more to them than appearing at the top or very near the top in the comparison sites such as Confused and Money Supermarket. To appear at the top you need the lowest price.
To get that lowest price without cutting your own throat means stripping out the extras such as legal expenses and guaranteed courtesy cars. This is what Tesco have done and their standard policy can best be described as no frills.
I'm afraid you get what you pay for at the end of the day. While price is uppermost in peoples minds this will continue.0 -

Good point well made Mattymoo. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -

Mate I couldn't agree more, I sell motor insurance and as you say the last 2 years has become a nightmare, the customer only cares about price no matter what you take away from a policy. a customer today was adament thy needed legal and a replacement car as they lived miles out in the sticks, when i told them it would £46 for them both, they decided they could make do, Its stupid, people only car about price, UNTIL they need the insurance then they start complaining they have been miss sold to.
its what you get for your money that matters, not what you pay0
