hi! hope someone will be able to tell me where i stand.
On renewal period i switched from M&S Car Insurance (Fotis Insurance) to TESCO. I took my policy over the phone and i asked the sales rep in clear words that i want a FULLY comprehensive insurance policy which will cover me for everything a car insurance policy should do. When he asked me about my no claims ,I clearly told him that i have proof for 1 year but i have been driving a company car before that but i dont know what insurer the company used(I dont work there anymore).
Then we agreed to keep it as 2 years no claims. And the policy was taken.
First week June S#*T hit the fan and i had an accident. Luckily nobody else was involved, the old bill dint even boter taking my breath sample. The car got written off.
I rang TESCO to see if they can arrange me a courtesy car only to get a shocking news, "WE ARE SO SORRY BUT FULLY COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE POLICY DOESNT HAVE COURTESY CAR,ITS AN EXTRA  FEATURE WORTH ABOUT £30  " I couldnt believe it. And it cost me about £500.00 on taxi fares and that before i could get a new car.
Now they are demanding that i keep on paying the premiums. And they are demanding two years no claims proof (I tried to explain to them conversation with the sales rep. when i took my policy).
I am not impressed at all so i cancelled my direct debit to TESCO. Now i am wondering where do i stand in all this TESCO SEMI COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE FIASCO. Am i legally bound to keep paying the premiums for a car that doesnt even exist.
I am prepared to Drag them to court if i have to..
Any help any suggestions..
Thanks for your time and suggestion in advance ..

Tesco have given you a comprehensive policy. If you bothered to read the docs they sent you it will only give you a courtesy car if they are repairing it. At the very most it will pay until they give you the settlement cheque.
You have paid for a annual contract, not a monthly one. Why do you think you can suddenly break it off half way through? The policy has done what it said it would do so you should do the same. Tesco is able to claim this money.
As for the NCD, you should be fine, provided of course it happened like you suggested.0 -
No-one gives a courtesy car when a car has been written off.
If you wanted to be covered for that you needed hire car cover, which is extra on every insurance policy I've ever seen.0 -

Hi! mate.. I know that once your car is written off the courtesy car chapter is over but i am talking about the period of time when the car was still due to be declared written off. Or would you need a hire car cover for that too. ????????????-+++

Totally agree with the above 2 posts. You are given 14 days from receipt of your documents to check that it meets your needs and cancel at no penalty if it does not meet your requirements. The fact that even now after the accident you are asking for advice on whether you still owe them the rest of your premium would indicate that you STILL haven't read them!!!
I just Googled "Tesco Car Insurance" and got to the following page:
http://www.tescoinsuranceuk.co.uk/google/car_insurance.php
On there it states:
Further Information About Tesco Car Insurance
A range of additional insurance benefits can be added to the Tesco Car Insurance package should you need extra cover. The extra options available include the provision of a Guaranteed Temporary Replacement Car, and extra cover for legal protection, which can be put towards legal costs or any compensation claims.
I'd say that was clear enough. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
I admit to not reading the policy docs sent to me by TESCO. As i said i asked the sales rep to give me the FULLY comprehensive not SEMI  comprehensive insurance policy.
I was just wondering when you ask for a FULLY COMP. insurance policy what do you expect??? I dont think a policy without courtesy car or legal cover can be classed as a fully comprehensive policy.
I wouldnt have any issues if i had asked for a semi comp policy or even value insurance policy.
Anyways.. thanks for your support.. (tbh i hope u guys dont work for TESCO's Financial Department:eek: ) cheers ta :A-+++

You have been given a fully comp policy. It will give you a couresty car under the conditions you said yourself you havent read.0

If you ask tesco for tomatoes, and they hand you a bag of tomatoes, would you complain that they weren't on the vine?
Fully comp insurance has no standard definition these days, and as people buy the cheapest policy they can, the benefits are being stripped out and sold as extras. In it's true sense, comprehensive just means that your car is covered as well as third parties.
It will depend what you want as to how well a policy will suit your needs. If I want a small excess, I'll ensure the policy excess is agreeable. If I want a courtesy car (I would rarely need them as I own several cars) I'd make sure the policy had one.
There's no such thing as semi-comprehensive, but you have to check out what you are buying properly. Tesco sold you what you asked for. If you ASSUMED things were included, then you don't have any comeback.0 -

You'd need it ,Normally when your car is off road due to an accident while its WAITING to be repaired or declared written off.
And i rang TESCO the next day of the incident and they plainly told me that my FULLY(SEMI:mad:) COMP insurance policy dont have any courtesy car whatsoever. FULL STOP.
So i think they need to train their sales rep to make potential customers fully aware (VICTIMS) that FULLY COMP for TESCO means no courtesy cars unless you pay extra on the top of your FULLY COMP Premiums.
Cheers guys i am thrilled to see how supportive you are towards me ... :T :T-+++

But what i am saying is i did not ask for a stripped off cheap value insurance policy.
I'd have had the TESCO value insurance (that was the actual level of service i recieved as of VALUE insurance policy). if i was bothered about the cost.
So the bitter reality is I was victimised for not reading the paper works, Its maybe bit too late now to be whining about it but i am still disatisfied about the fact i asked for a FULLY COMPREHENSIVE( not just comprehensive) policy which would have everything a fully comp policy should have.
Personal Injury Cover
Legal Cover
BreakDown Cover
Courtesy Car / Replacement Car Cover.
And i am very dissappointed that ppl cant realise not everyone owns several cars.  -+++

Diddums.
YOU didnt read the policy booklet. Nobody has conned you and it is your own stupid fault. People should take responibilty for their own actions. As before, you were sold a full comprehensive policy as Tesco define one.0
