... It used to take me 2 hours for every viewing because I lived alone and therefore lived "with everything I needed close to hand" and for viewings I had to put things away and do things like arranging all the blinds.curtains precisely (different for a viewing to how I lived in the house). I even had to think hard about when I did my washing as it would take 3 days to dry inside ... got caught out one day, put the washing airers in a bedroom (had the window open), but the viewers said "smelt damp". Which it didn't. It smelt of damp washing that had been in a small room for 2 hours.

    Good luck!
When Mrs I and I sold, we had a sheet of tasks to be done in each room. We spent about 1.5 hours on it to start with, but got it down to about 20 mins towards the end.

Perhaps they just don't like gardening. It's a bit of a stretch if the imagination to blame them for a cancelled viewing, when it could be any nummber of reasons.

Jesus, I am glad I don't live in your street if people complain about the state of each other's gardens.

It might be that she is struggling to cope with kid and /or other problems, and the garden is the last thing she can face. Maybe she would welcome a chat, and an offer of help.

Just a thought, perhaps I'm being in too 'soft' a mood this morning, heat getting to my brain...

Its easy for me to say, but there will be somebody along eventually that loves your house & the price, its just a question of how long you are prepared to put up with the hassle, waiting for that person to come along.
Or am I being too simplistic?

The reason for the no show might not have been the neighbours' garden - but we all do react to stereotypes - which is what the OP (and me with problem neighbour's garden) are concerned about.

You only have to watch a movie. Say there is a scene in it with rows of houses with unkempt gardens, rubbish lying around etc. There would be a distinct message being conveyed about the type of neighbourhood - whether it was true or not.

I'd be tempted to offer to sort their garden out - but they might be offended by the suggestion.

Well to be honest they are just lazy and don't seem to care that they offend people.

Why does it offend other people?

Their garden, to be fair, so they can do what they like with it.

When I have a garden I will be rubbish at it. If a neighbour felt it was an eyesore and wanted to sort it out for me free I'd be over the moon.

What about turning it around a bit. Say to your neighbour you're thinking of being a landscape gardener etc and you'd like a test case - can you try on their garden? - maybe you could get the other people who are also complaining to contribute to the cost (that will be interesting!) ..... everyone wins then, plus if you like it you might have anew career!!

    Yes.

That may have worked in the past, but with prices plummeting faster than at any point in history, its unlikely to happen at the moment.

The longer the house stays on the market at its current price, the more expensive and unsaleable it becomes.
