Arghh how rude!

Well finally got house on the market, I know bad time and all that. However we really need a bigger house. I did all the stuff it says on here, mine is almost the cheapest (4th cheapest) in a few mile radius. The only cheaper ones are "do ups" that do not have the space and really are not as nice ( by that I mean bathroom and kitchen done, ready to move into type) and they are only 5 to 10 grand cheaper

The property went on the agents website on Thursday and by the evening I had a call saying a couple wanted to view today, which was a bit shocking but was pleased.

So after a week of the holidays with my 4 being at home I had to kick them all out yesterday and spent the day cleaning, I have never known my house be so clean and tidy.

This morning the agent called to say the couple had driven round the area and did not like it so did not want to view! Just a bit cross I took a day off to spend scrubbing when I could have been out in the sun with my kids.

The area I live is not the nicest, I am told if I moved my house to the other side of my area (still the same postcode) I could fetch over 50k more, would a potential buyer not know that? I am thinking that they may have driven down my street to see my horrid neighbour from hell's overgrown garden.

Oh well at least I have a clean house and the sun is shining- I suppose I will have to get used to this!

I know, it's a real pain isn't it? I had it when I was trying to sell mine.
The daft thing is, they must have known where your home was before they booked the viewing

Some viewers can be quite rude too, and you have to smile and be nice.
One viewer we had kicked the bathroom door to open it, no need for it at all.

We took ours off the market, after over a year no decent offers, and have decided to stay put for a while.
I hope your sale goes well, take care, all the best.

Yes, many yrs ago I also had a no show who didn't like the idea of having to pass council houses to reach our small non council estate.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

When the market is the way it is, any flaws will be likely be viewed as deal breakers. Buyers can afford to be very picky at the moment and want maximum bang for their bucks.

To be totally honest, I have personally narrowed my search area down to those with which you dont have to trek through the naff areas to get to, as well as many other things. Why go for that when the one on the other side of town is accessed by driving along nice meadows and lakes etc. Its all about first impression.

If it bothers me, it will bother whoever I try to sell to when the times comes. I'm just too much of a damn perfectionist I guess... just my opinion!

They may have been in the estate agents and pressured into making an appointment when they picked up the details. Everyone does a drive by first.

People can't know every road and if you're looking it can't be practical to go out and drive by every road before you phone the agents.

Yes, it is annoying, but that's the way it goes. You are selling a house and that means you have taken on the additional job of turning your life upside down every time the phone rings "just in case".

It used to take me 2 hours for every viewing because I lived alone and therefore lived "with everything I needed close to hand" and for viewings I had to put things away and do things like arranging all the blinds.curtains precisely (different for a viewing to how I lived in the house). I even had to think hard about when I did my washing as it would take 3 days to dry inside ... got caught out one day, put the washing airers in a bedroom (had the window open), but the viewers said "smelt damp". Which it didn't. It smelt of damp washing that had been in a small room for 2 hours.

    Good luck!

Often EAs in one branch will pass on details of potential buyers to other branches.

Buyers get a call from very pushy EA insisting they must come view such-and-such a place.

Turns out the neighbourhood is a dump.

    Has happened to me before.

    HI all

Thanks for the replies. I know I will have to get used to this, I was just having rant I suppose. I think it will be tough keeping the house spotless with the kids but you never know I might loose a few inches with all this activity, which has to be a bonus.

To be honest I am a little more worried about my neighbours garden. I live in a quiet little cul de sac, with fields at the back of us. Everyone (except my neighbours) have lovely gardens, and we all look after them. My neighbours is just full of weeds that are as tall as the fence. They own thier house so not really sure what I can do. Many neighbours have spoken to them to no avail.

At least I got all the housework done, I can enjoy another sunny day now.

How well do you get on with them? Could you explain your position and ask if you and the kids could blitz the weeds, cut the grass for them once a week while you are trying to sell? Would they be offended, or can they just not be bothered or see the point of doing it themselves?

Well to be honest they are just lazy and don't seem to care that they offend people. They are not generally a problem just a bit strange, I am struggling with doing thier garden when they are perfectly capable a young couple he works ,she's a stay at home mum. Though I might have to do it if I get any more feedback like that.

  • I can empathise on all counts- I also had a no show this week. I am thinking of staying put now- although financially it's going to be very difficult. But it's great to have a clean and tidy house......lol

I also have the neighbour with the untidy garden - neighbour now sporting a broken fence to add to the ambience...oh joy. Neighbour on other side has a beautiful garden as does everyone else in the street.

Unfortunately, it's a buyer's market at the moment - things are not looking good in conveyancing department where I work- there are many sales falling through in the very early stages and even one where prices have had to be re-negotiated across the chain (which was getting ready to exchange) due to one lender's valuation which meant lower mortgage offer - but in order not to lose out, everyone else revised their prices downwards. Haven't seen that before.
