Oedema in late pregnancy - when to worry?

Hi all,
My wife is nearly 39 weeks pregnant; she's had swollen feet and ankles off and on for a couple of weeks, and slightly swollen hands for a little less time.
However the last couple of days it's been distinctly worse, the swelling of the feet is now not going down when she rests (e.g. this morning was as bad and puffy as last night) where it did before, and her knees have taken on a bit of swelling too. Her hands are getting a bit painful.
At some point, we are supposed to worry about pre-eclampsia signs, but we're not sure when to draw the line or what approach to take - rushing to Casualty at the weekend might just be over-kill, but maybe we should book to see someone this week... or maybe we should ignore it! Any of you experienced mums out there have some insight?
Thanks!

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: Sorry, giving or asking for medical advice is not permitted on this forum as it’s not what this site is about. While discussing medical insurance policies, cheaper ways to see consultants, cashback for alternative health treatments and how to get specific medication cheaper (legally) are all perfectly acceptable we ask you specifically not to discuss what to do in the event of certain medical problems (please see this rule on the Health Board). If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!
