tesco NSS coupons....policy info required

i have been using NSS ( non store specific) coupons in my local tesco for a while without buying the actual product. now the management are saying that the policy changed two or three years ago???? and that they accept NO coupon without buying the actual product. the duty manager said they have re trained customer services staff and all till staff to obey this. they insist that they have spoken to the director of tesco at head office and he/she said the same........now no till staff accept my coupons and i have to go to another store that sometimes/sometimes not accept my coupons...whats goin on??? are they making this up or is there any truth to it? and is the tesco policy for all stores or can individual stores decide there own policy? i'm just not sure if i have a leg to stand on arguing this???? cheers

The same happened to me in my local store.. they changed the Store Manager and he decided he didn't want to accept coupons and so I've had to move store. I tried to argue but was told its the decision of the manager as to the particular stores coupon policy.
I did initially try a couple more checkouts in case it was the assistant, but I now have to travel an extra 10 miles, but its worth it.

I emailed Tesco back in May 08 and this is the reply I got :-

    Thank you for your email.

All Tesco specific coupons display the Tesco logo. We'll only accept these at the till if you buy the product shown on the coupon at the time.

We're happy to accept a non-Tesco product coupon even if you don't buy the item. But, the coupon must be in date and Tesco must sell the product. If you present more than one identical coupon you need to purchase the same number of products. This also includes coupons printed from the Internet. Some of these vouchers may be subject to acceptance at the discretion of the Store Manager.

There is no limit for the amount of coupons you use but it cant exceed the spending limit.

The coupons in that you receive from Tesco are the only ones that can be used, coupons from friends or relatives wont work as they wont be registered to your account.

    Thank you for contacting Tesco.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us at customer.service@tesco.co.uk quoting ************.

    Kind Regards

    Hi,

I was wondering if you could clarify a few things for me please.

    1. Do you accept coupons even if you haven't bought the item?

    2. Is there a limit on how many coupons you can use in one transaction?

    3. Are internet coupons acceptable as long as they are originals and not copies?

    Many thanks for your time.

I can confirm that I got told today that I couldnt use a 50p MOC as I hadnt bought the product. I asked when did the policy change, and was told it has always been like that.I had emailed Tesco's in June and got a similar reply as before, so I showed her that and she asked the Supervisor.

He tried taking the line of we have never accepted MOC (funny been using them the previous weeks!), he then saw my email, and said that Tescos will accept ONE complimentary coupon.

I went to my Tesco on saturday and they too told me that they dont accept MOC's anymore. When I told them that I have an email from HO and it stated that they will accept MOC's, CS told me that they have done their own policy and will no longer accept MOC's....

I had the problem as the OP. First time I though ok you can't win them all, but when it happened a second and third time, even after stating tesco's national policy they still refused.

I email customer services, and they sent me a standard e-mail stating th policy. This didn't work either. I emailed back and stated that dispite my other local supermarket being further, that I would rather go there and not use coupons than the shop refuse to follow national policy.

I was replied to by a supervisor, asking for the stores name and location, as they wanted to get in touch and clarify. I obliged, and recieved another email saying that everything was sorted and they would gladly follow national policy.

My advice kick up a fuss, if you don't they walk all over you. That goes for every national company!
