Aaaarrrgghhhh! I'm pulling what's left of the hair on my almost bald head out with indecision.

Please advise if you can. My wife saw a Watchdog program about airport parking (can't remember where) and how they drive your car away from the carpark you think your car is going to be parked in, and park it in overflow carparks which are little more than wasteland with a fence. Many people got their cars back damaged or filthy.

Needless to say this concerned her and now we need to book parking for our car at Glasgow airport for 2 weeks, we have no idea who is 'safe' to opt for. I'm more concerned with our car being looked after than I am about cost. We have Tesco points that we can exchange for PurpleParking vouchers which will mean our parking will effectively be free (kindof, lol), but we have no idea if they are a decent company.

I also got quotes from all the companies that got thrown up when I searched for 'Glasgow Airport Parking' and the quotes were all fairly similar.

The other option is to stay at the Travelodge at Glasgow Airport the night before we fly out, and you can leave your car there for £3 per day but I'm assuming it's just in their carpark and not a secure facility.

Please can anyone who has needed to park at Glasgow Airport advise on who is best to deal with and save my few remaining strands of hair?

I'm sorry I cannot offer any advise but I am in EXACTLY the same situation as you but looking at Gatwick Airport. Its not the cost thats bothering me its the safety of my nice car :)

I have oodles of quotes and there isn't much difference - its justdeciding who to go for!

Good Luck with your parking :)
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

At Gatwick I always recommend staying at a local hotel which will look after the car free. I use the Ifield Court, telephone 01293 534807.

The hotel has a secure compound for storing cars and will take you to and from the airport. So long as you are going away for more than a few days it works out cheaper than parking at the airport. I have used the hotel for about 20 years and am very pleased with their service.

I can't vouch for purple parking at Glasgow or anywhere else, but we used them at Heathrow and were very impressed. Very efficient and CCTV cameras etc meant I felt my car was in good hands.
  • Why not use NCP I have used them at Heathrow, Birmingham and Cardiff and they don't ask for your keys and the car is always exactly were you left it. Book online http://www.ncp.co.uk it appears to give discount on gate price.

Trading standards recently prosecuted an off-airport car park at Cardiff for moving cars to a disused quarry which was not licensed for car parking. There have also been prosecutions at off-airport sites in Bristol.

  • I have found that the absolute rock bottom is to use Purple Parking and pay for it with Tesco Clubcard vouchers, only trouble with this is you need the vouchers and you need at least three weeks notice as you have to get the deals vouchers and then give them 14 days notice before you travel. Last time I did this got about a week at East Midlands for £8 worth of vouchers - usual price £30 which is still quite cheap. Purple are off-site but usually take around five to ten minutes longer than using the onsite long stay carparks and the buses are frequent with helpful bus drivers.

Just a word of warning to anyone thinking of using Purple Parking.

I booked on line with the tesco vouchers, got my confirmation and everything went ok on departure. However, when i returned from a 13 hour flight with my family it took over 1 hour standing in the freezing cold before my car actually turned uo. I tried to contact them on numerous occasions to find out where my car was but you just cannot get through to anyone. (different number to get your car!!!!)
Anyway, i just recently got my cc statement and they have charged me the full cost of 135 quid.
When i phoned the sales customer survice they said that they did not receive the tesco voucher so they charged me the full amount. Needless to say, i shall not be using them again and i would warn others. Teir customer service stinks.

PS this was the meet and greet service at Heathrow.

I am sorry you had a bad experience with Purple Parking Meet & Greet. I have used them many times at Heathrow and am always more than happy with their service - even more so when their half price codes work. It is not a tin-pot operation it is huge and very secure. I have not redeemed Tesco points so cannot comment on that.
