Name of present: Balloons and ribbons gift
Make it or buy it: Make it
Total cost: Under £5
Details:
My OH was starting a new job at the local hospital. She was really nervous as it was her first job since training to be a nurse. She didn't know anyone there. I made this gift myself..bought balloons and ribbons...I got a local card shop to blow the balloons up for me with their gas...offered £1 but they did it for free as I bought a card. I made a little bag to weigh the balloons down. I took the balloons up to the hospital ward about an hour before she was due in work...it was a great surprise for her !!
Best of all... it was a good ice-breaker with her new work mates...they all wanted to know who they were for.
Received major bonus points for this one..I can tell yah ! :rotfl:
The best presents are hand made and cost less than a fiver  It proves that you thought about the gift

Nooooooo...continue giving cheap expensive looking gifts. This way you'll continue to be debt free. Spend the money on yourself !frosty wrote:

Name of present? Weatherstick
Do you make it or buy it? Buy it.
Total Cost? £4.99, plus postage if you buy online, but if you can't spend enough at Hawkin to get free postage you've got more self-control than I have. Plus several other things have been suggested from Hawkin.
Details (the more the better) From the Hawkin website: "We try hard to keep a closed mind when shown 'hot-sellers' in the USA, but this one was irresistible. It is, allegedly, how folk predict weather in Maine. (Where's that? Top right, almost Canada, we're told.) Tack it up outside, and it bends down when foul weather is approaching, then up again for fine. Some 38cm long and very much 'hand-crafted' it comes on a card full of "Here's what other people say about their weathersticks" testimonials which are a joy in themselves. From Texas a 75-year-old writes to assure us it works even in the Deep South. What a wonderful present for all those people who have everything - except a Woodman's Weatherstick!"
Where possible please add a link if it's an online offer Weatherstick
We bought several of these a few years ago and they were received with great delight, because so unusual.
BTW, if you are sending money, you can add to the intrigue by the way you wrap it. We are allowed to shake and squeeze our presents but not open them before the day, and I was mystified by a small package one year. It made a small amount of noise when shaken, it was an odd shape, and I just couldn't make it out! It was a cheque folded up inside a biggish pill bottle!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Someone opened a savings account on behalf of my baby daughter.I had a nightmare time as everytime I needed to do anything to the account She had to do it as the BS would not let me and she was under 7. She put the cheque in an envelope when my son was born and let me open the account.0
