  • Name of present? AUTOBIOGRAPHY KIT
Do you make it or buy it? BOTH
Total Cost? UP TO FIVE QUID
Details : Decorate a cardboard box. Obtain stationary required for the project. suggested minimum: Pen/pencil, A4 Note book, small pocket size note pad to jot ideas down when out and about. Any odd bits of stationary you already have that may be useful ( eg post-it notes, double sided sticky tape for adding photos) Place them in the box. Label the lid to make it obvious what it's for.
I made one for my Father one Christmas when I was simply lost for ideas. It turned out to be the best thing I ever gave him. He laughed but I told him it was deadly serious and I wanted to be the first to read it as I had commisioned it. It took a year or so before he put pen to book but I later discovered that this was due to lengthy research (not strictly neccesary but fun for him) involving the odd trip out down memory lane and photo shoots on location (like the station platform where he first saw my mother) He was nothing if not thorough and the finished result was a collection of volumes rather than one as I'd expected. (The one entitled THE WAR YEARS made fascinating reading.) Anyway, the upshot was he got a lot of fun doing it and he found it quite theraputic in many ways. That was about ten years ago. He's no longer with us now - but I love to get the books out and dip into them from time to time. I know things about his life that I would never have otherwise known and feel the closer to him for it.

Have just bought one for only £2.50 - brilliant quality. Also many other good quality brand new leather articles for under a fiver from an ebay shop, the seller being britsbabe2002. Well worth a look

Name of present? Mr Thrifty :money:
Do you make it or buy it? Buy It
    Total Cost? £2.99
Details (the more the better) This ingenious and invaluable book (standard paper-back, 224 pages) covers many interpretations of the idea of 'saving money'. One section, for instance, gives detailed advice on how to avoid paying for things which can be acquired free, or, where this is impossible, how to reduce the cost. Another section lists, with phone numbers etc, the sources of the best bargains in almost every imaginable field. And throughout it is thoroughly entertaining to read or dip into. Buy one for yourself, and at least one more as a present for almost anyone. Saving money starts here of course: cover-price is £4.99, but from us, it's only... £2.99

Where possible please add a link if it's an online offer http://www.hawkin.com/rkmain.asp?PAGEID=20670&STK_PROD_CODE=04241&XPAGENO=16
i got this for my dad last year & to save even more it was then lent to loads of other people instead of buying 1 each!

name of present ... surprise package
    cost well under a fiver
    description

we have got a few of these. a shoebox filled with all the freebies we have doubled up with and as im lucky to live near a restore (recylcing place) i fill up childrens boxes with the toys off magazines that i get for nothing from here. I also get the shoeboxes from here and the wrapping paper ribbon etc.
The person receiving the parcel is thrilled to bits with everything inside and also it keeps the kids occupied for ages.
wrap each item individually inside & it will keep them occupied even longer! my dh did this once with bars of chocolate for me. yum!

Name of Present: 100 Reasons Why I love You
    Make or Buy: Make
    Total Cost £3
    Details:

As corny as it sounds, for our 1st annniversary, I wrote down 101 reasons why I love my partner. I then cut the paper up into squares, folded them and then put them in a box to present to him. I wanted to give him a present that he could keep, but that was also thoughtful and original. He thought it was wonderful..and opens a new reason every day!
is my marriage in trouble cos i can't think of that many?!!

I've seen a few links to Hawkin's Bazaar but, if you live in or near Nottingham, there's a Hawkin's Bazaar shop in Victoria Centre. It will save on postage and packing and you can see the items for yourself. But allocate yourself plenty of time as you may be in there for a while.
    Don't delay, do it today!
