and it not steaming up or being powerful enough on "normal" to remove creases so it is definitely faulty.

There was something in my instruction booklet that said my iron had to be turned up quite high to generate the steam properly - when I looked at the dial, the temperature suggested was right up in the highest quarter of the dial. I was surprised at how high a temperature it said it had to be!

However, even if turning the iron up higher solves the steam making aspect, it certainly does not solve the leaking base problem ...

  • I had my iron turned up really high and even then, the steam only came out of the bottom half of the iron! That only lasted seconds though!
The water tank was full as I kept it topped up so it wasn't that ... but like you say, the water leakage underneath the tank is a BIG worry.

So far nothing from Bzz ...
  • As has been pointed out, Bzz is your honest opinion on the iron and the service you have been given, Bzz is good or bad, I think it gives a lot to Bzz about!

  • I might add not the sort of Bzz that Phillips would hope for but it is still Bzz!

Yorkie Pud, I kept the letter enclosed with my iron from bzzagent as my receipt, as it explains why I received the iron and is dated with the date the iron was sent out. Phillips may accept this as a receipt, especially if accompanied with your credit or debit card statement showing the £20 taken by bzzagent.

If you did not keep your letter, I would be happy to send you a copy of mine - it does not have my particular address on and Phillips are not to know you are not bzzagent *****! Then they may replace or repair it as per the methods outlined in the booklet that came with the iron.

I mentioned in an earlier post that the cord reataining clip on my iron had cracked. I emailed Philips to see if they could send a replacement and got a rather disappointing response:

    Dear Ms XXXXXXXX.

Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding you Philips Iron.

We were sorry to learn of the problems you are experiencing with your GC7220
We would like to reassure you that all Philips products undergo extensive testing prior to their introduction to ensure their quality and reliability and issues of this nature are extremely rare.

Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience you have experienced.

However I would advise that unfortunately we are unable to replace the part you have requested as we do not have this part available.

If the above information does not help you gain satisfaction with the Iron we would respectfully ask that you contact the Buzz Agent from whom you received the product from for trial to see if they would be able to assist you.

Should you require any further information please contact our Customer Care Centre (details below)-there weren't any details below! quoting customer reference number XXXXXXXX.

    Kind regards,

    Philips Customer Care.

I don't feel quite so positive about spreading W.O.M after that

W.O.M is both positive and negative remember. It's interesting to learn that Philips are not keen to help you. Great Customer Service  . This would influence me when thinking about purchasing a Philips product!!

I have since received this from Philips:

Dear, Mr. XXXX (apparently I have had a sex change overnight!).

Thank you for your reply regarding your GC7220.

We were sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with the service you have received from our Customer Care department. We would like to reassure you that our polices and procedures are tailored to provide the customer with a fair solution to any issue they may experience and the majority of Philips consumers are satisfied with the service they receive.

If a customers experience or request falls outside of our usual polices and procedures guidelines we will make a decision regarding the individual circumstances in order to determine a suitable resolution. Please accept our apologies if you feel that your case was not dealt with fairly.

I would advise that at present because this product is brand new there are no parts available for the GC7220 at the moment.

    Kind regards,

    Philips Customer Care.

Should you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us as we will keep the above e-mail address available for you for the next 14 days.

Alternatively please use the e-mail service at
    www.philips.co.uk.

Hmm still doesn't offer to resolve my problem at any point. Also if people go out and buy one of these at full price and need parts for them, what are they supposed to do

  • Thanks so much for the offer, but Philips said they would need a proper till receipt that was dated!! Even after I kept telling them it was a trial!

Bad news is that Argos here won't let you swap it ... I actually phoned to ask them where I stood and the lady said ah, the trial steam generator irons. Sooo, it looks like word has got round and Argos is aware that people are trying to get them replaced quick and easy that way ...

Bzz STILL haven't replied back to me, so have just written to them again.
I just want to be sure that I am not going to have a bill for the repair or have to pay for the postage costs ... can you imagine how much that box would cost to send?? Whew!!!

Thanks everyone though for your help and advice ... looks like there are more faulty ones than we thought with Argos being in the loop about people trying to return them for replacements.

Oh, they also said if it was Made in France it was one of theirs, but if it was Made in China (mine says made in China on the bottom) then it wasn't ... so are the Made in China ones not made up to a standard then cos they aren't going to be sold for full price? Yeah, I know, am being paranoid now!!

Just a thought are you sure that Argos are aware of them because of the ones that are trying to sell them on Ebay took them there first. They might have found out that way or because they tried to use their vouchers towards other items from there.
Thanks for any help and advice given
