Its good for people who just want to phone the same circle of 3 people.

However have you consider hidden costs Eg Voicemail 15p.Do you phone lots of other people from your mobile. At the moment you pay 7.5p a minute in the first 1000 minutes to call mobiles. This will double on TT to 15p a minutes.100 % increase.

Also have you considered what you lose if you take your line rental away from BT.
    PF.
  • as far as i am aware its free to call anyone on tt wether its home phone or mobile. not bothered about voicemail and as far as i can see i dont lose anything by switching who bills me for my line rental, they dont change the exchanges or lay new pipes.
really i cant see any negative about this at all, i think cos it looks too good to be true i am looking for flaws but hey it is could save me money. I have just been speaking to my friend whi is gonna go on TT too to get the free calls to me and my mobile.

Yes its free to call anyone on Talk Talk landline or mobile but dont you ever call people not on TT? If not,it has to be good for you :D .

By switching line rental away from Bt you can end up paying more for your line rental, and add ons.Eg Caller displayis not free on TT.TT can stop you calling cheap call suppliers Bt cant.Fault reporting on Bt is easier and probaly gets a quicker response. If you move you are no longer a Bt moving customer, and you might have to pay connection.Calls to some NGN numbers are dearer.EtcEtc. ;)

i have been in to carphone and here is the deal, can anyone beat this

9.50 line rental on home phone x2
10.00 per month for 3 talk talk mobile sims

this gives me FREE calls between all other talk talk home phones and mobiles. (my friend is on TT)

If I get my friends on tt they will give me a 10.00 credit on my bill too. I also get free weekend calls to any other home phone. Only prob is i have to wait to november to sign up in store.

this works out at 48.98 per month a saving of over £200 per month.

i cant wait to sign up. I have to tell all my friends now.

    thanks for all your advice
It is generally NOT recommended to move your line rental from BT .Do you or your mum /partner use the landline phone for daytime / evening calls ? If you do then https://www.1899.com would be cheaper .
Talk Talk charge 2.7p per minute daytime to a landline ,1899 or 18866 charge 3p ( connection fee) per unlimited call .

If you keep your line rental with BT and use Talk Talk for your free calls you can use 1899 or 18866 or 18185 for non free calls and still use Talk Talk mobile .
Do you have free caller display from BT ?
If you move your line rental to Talk Talk you wont have FREE caller display .and you may not be able to use 1899 or 18866 .At the moment Talk Talk line rental I think is 51p a month cheaper than BT .But caller display alone would cost you more than you would save .
I use Talk Talk for free calls 18866 /1899 /18855 for other calls and BT for line rental .
  • I think it has to be remembered if reading this thread that the "offer" the OP has decided to take up in fact isn't available as yet and therefore the T&C's regarding it are as yet not available.

Also the average user would not be saving anything like £200 per month, certainly not if they read MSE icon7.gif

I am not knocking TalkTalk as in fact I am a customer myself but I think it would be wise to wait and see exactly what the offers are that they are coming out with and not read too much into what this particular sales person is pushing ahead of time.

like, whether there's a "fair usage policy" ...?

... in which case, the OP might be in peril

verry true .the last calls I PAID Talk Talk for, cost 15p
But like all MSE I use 18866 /1899 /18185 . for mobile and non free landline calls .
  • Warning their is a fair usage policy.

    HI,
Signed up for TalkTalk option 3,Im now paying only 9.99 a month for the next 6
months, for all my calls day and night (except mobiles).Including line rental.

Also managed to get friends & family to sign up(6 so far),so ive earnt another £60.
If i can get another 6,then my phone bill for the coming year will be aprox £48,we dont use mobiles ,only for emergencies and who REALLY needs caller display, unless your hiding from someone.

    Be Lucky & Merry Chrimbo.

    And except 056/070/084/087 numbers.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
