But is this because you didn't tell him?0 -
I assumed that with the cat litter sack he was carrying in (16lt, that barely fit their trays never mind bags) and the copious amounts of cat food (90% of my order was my monthly shop for pet food) he would have realised. But no, you are quite right, I did not mention it verbally as well.0

b. our driver believes that it is safe and practical to do as you request. We always reserve the right to deliver only to the main entrance of the delivery address.
The driver has an allergy, he may not know that extreme exposure could cause an anaphalatic reaction, which could be life threatening in extreme cases.
The driver didn't believe is was safe and accordingly, refused, your house becomes his place of work, he has a right to be safe in your home. If he cannot assure his own safety, he must not enter a property.
On to the point about he should've known you had cats because of your shopping, I would expect my Tesco driver to exercise a certain amount of discretion and not look in my shopping bags, and it could be that your driver did exactly that.
I think honestly, you have to let this lie with Tesco, they did send someone around who did carry your shopping, give them credit for that, they didn't have to.

I would like the driver that behaved so badly and that is a representative of Tescos to be reprimanded and I should like a surety from Tescos that in view of my disability they will indeed deliver direct to my kitchen, should I ask it of them. If the allergy is a problem for some, then I am sure that Tescos have the ability to make a note against my account and will ensure in future that only drivers with no allergies are sent.
I was more hoping for some suggestions on what to actually state in my letter, based on consumer rights. Or is the only right that I have, the one of simply not using them anymore? Does this mean that we are all to tolerate ill-mannered staff wherever we go?
Firstly you got decent service from tescos they sent someone round to help you with your shopping which they didn't have to, secondly compensation for what exactly, because the first driver didn't take it upstairs, or because you had to wait for the food to be took upstairs?
Thirdly why keep throwing the i'm disabled so they should do it card, sorry but it doesn't wash with me, it really annoys me when people hide behind their disabilities and expect preferential treatment because they have one, i have two disabled children one severly disabled but just because things don't happen the way i want them to with my children i just accept that thats life, you had a bad experience but life isn't all lovely and nice we do have to take the good with the bad.0 -
Am i missing something here?
I have had home deliverys and the delivery guys have never brought the bags into my kitchen. They either drop them at the doorstep (outside) or they drop them just inside the door in the hallway.
Tesco don't state that they will bring the goods into your kitchen do they, so what on earth could they possibly pay out compensation for?
I understand that you are disabled, but is there nobody who could help, either with shopping, or a neighbour/friend/relative who could bring the bags upstairs for you?
If I was the delivery person, I wouldn't enter someones home if they had a cat/s and I was allergic to them.

With great respect, no matter how discreet a delivery driver is, he would have had difficulty overlooking my order. But, let's just say he was uber discreet and did indeed have an allergy and that I was remiss in not mentioning it.He gets upstairs and realises this is a pet household. What I would expect is for him to have turned around and said something along the lines of - sorry, didn't realise you had cats, I'm allergic and that would have been that.
Instead, he threw his hand over his head/face and 'shouted' "theres no way I'm going in there" and then he ran out. From the start I have not objected to his allergy, if true, but to his manner of address.
Onto the point about giving credit for having delivered my goods. I paid for that service and don't think it's unreasonable of me to expect decent treatment in return. I requested that it be delivered to my flat as I couldn't have managed it. Had he objected on grounds of allergy. I would have let it rest, but for the words the replacement driver used - had I spent the whole time cleaning cos he expected it to be smelly
It indicated to me that the first driver had returned and made disparaging remarks on the cleanliness of my home - and had been caught out in the lie by the second driver wondering what all the fuss was about. I find that grossly insulting.
Surely I am not being unreasonable here? Yes, I got my delivery. Yes, he made an attempt to take it upstairs with ill grace, but good grief, did he then have to go on and act the way he did?
Making me feel as though I am slovenly? When I am not!0 -

Are you actually reading this thread? My whole point has been that I did NOT get good service!
Firstly, Tescos do not deliver for free!
Secondly, the man was rude and made remarks about me that were belied by the second guy that came out.
Thirdly I find your inference that I am using my disability as some sort of 'card' crass, to say the least!
I brought it up, to explain why I needed my shopping taken upstairs. I normally do it myself, but lately have been in some severe pain and am under doctors orders to not lift anything remotely heavy. I needed the assistance for once
Hence the request made.
My fault entirely that I did not mention the cats. But, the way the man spoke to me and about me back at his office is what has got me upset!0 -
When I broke my foot and had Tesco deliveries, I used to ask the driver if they would carry the shopping upstairs to the kitchen and they always did.
However, I don't think you have a case for compensation, nor do I think Tesco have been unreasonable. They don't promise to always carry the bags/trays upstairs, they do it if the driver deems it safe and practicable for him/her to undertake that task. And in the end, they sent someone else to carry your shopping upstairs, which is going much further than they needed to, so you have suffered no real loss or inconvenience.
As far as I can see you have no proof that the first driver was lying about his cat allergy, nor any proof that he told the second driver that your house smelt.
People who don't own pets will, in any case, always be able to smell them in other people's houses.0 -

Tesco offer to deliver to your door, which they did do.
Each company varies. I have used Tescos a long time and this was the first time I asked them to help me, by taking it upstairs.
They did their bit by getting it to my door, for sure. The driver had the right to refuse which he ostensibly did on the grounds of allergies, after making an attempt.
I am querying his manner, that is all. I am also not after financial compensation, but a reprimand for that driver. And the opportunity to have my shopping delivered to my kitchen if needs be, when I cannot manage for myself.
Believe me, if I had someone to help me, I would prefer to save the delivery charge and go to Tescos instead of getting it delivered.
It saddens me that no-one can see why I am upset. It really does. This isn't about my disability. Or his allergy. Or Tescos delivery policy
It is about an employee of Tescos being downright rude to me and then going on to insult my home to his colleagues.
I wish I could show you what happened, but I cannot.
Thank you for your input, all. It has been educational. If nothing else, I can go away secure in the knowledge that at least his health was maintained, even if my dignity, was not.0 -
I appreciate how you feel and allergies aren't nice but then surely you would not take a job that involved you going into other peoples houses... i mean for example a person who suffered with hayfever wouldn't take a job in a florist now would they????
But that's the point though, it's not the delivery driver's job to take the shopping in the house, they just deliver it to the door. The guy was being nice, and then freaked out over the cats.
Morganjeans, I think you're being a little over sensitive about this. You should be thanking Tesco for actually going out of their way and sending a second person round to do a job that the first guy didn't have to do in the first place.
If the guy's allergic to cats, then obviously it's he's going to describe it to his colleagues as being like an horrific scene!! Don't take it personally! The poor guy was just freaked out.
You shouldn't spend so much time and energy worrying about what people say about you!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
