    Hey everyone,

Goodness Sarah what a nightmare! I have to say that was the nightmare with my car, one minute would be fine and then something would go wrong and it would turn out to be soooo expensive!

I hope they fix it quickly and with no charge to you at all!!

I'm feeling rubbish today, I have got some awful cold thing going on and feel carpy but was super busy at work and didn't think I should call in sick. Plus if I go over a certain number of sick days I won't be eligible for the increment in April ..... and I need that for sure!

TDQO - I can certainly sympathise with you - it is really hard when you go to a new area and have to make new friends but don't have the support of your old friends around. I always find it frustrating having to explain everything, so much easier with old pals who know your family, your history etc etc.

However keep at it, quite often people are happy to have new people going to social things, it keeps things fresh and lively and they are probably keen to hear new stories about things. As time passes you will probably find some people who you click with better than others...

I spent 4 mths in LA some time ago and some of the people I went out with - were probably not people I would socialise with ordinarily (just because of nothing in common, not snob reasons) but I did it to get out of the house and get out there. I was lucky that my flatmate invited me to everything and I did feel a bit like the hanger-on in the beginning but I got to know her friends and they were really welcoming and we are still in touch.

Good luck and I'm sure you will feel more settled soon and at least you will be lovely and tanned on your return to UK as I have no doubts this summer will be another damp squib!
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

The thing I'm finding hardest is that the only time I can actually say how I'm feeling is on here because I'm really not close enough to anyone over here to open up to them and I can only contact my friends at home once a day through facebook!!

Aaww hugs TDQO :grouphug: , I know it is bl**dy hard when you're somewhere completely new and have a bit of culture shock into the bargain. On the bright side, you always have something to talk to new people about (if you don't mind answering endless dumb questions about Britain). Have you tried hanging out in the less obvious places (eg. library) so you'd meet the less party-animal people? The year I was abroad I spent mainly with people in the same situation, the local friends I made were a) one who was dating a Brit and b) the street kids opposite the late night bookshop, because they saw me there most nights!

Your post reminded me so much of staying up til stupid o'clock so I could ring my best mate when she got into work - poor lass would be trying to get set up in the morning with me wittering on for ages. I'm off to give her a call and remind her how fab she is for putting up with me :D

I still agree with the others that you might as well go to the party anyway. Not all people in our 30s are boring! :p

Have been to the garage, it will be covered if it is the same as before, which I strongly suspect it is, have calmed down a bit now, but still icon9.gif Will have to risk driving it tomorrow and take it in at the weekend so hopefully not have to take a day off.

On the plus side my shoes have arrived:j They are lovely and am really pleased with them, can't believe I got them for £19.50 each, they look so expensive ( which they were in the first place:D ) A couple of them could do with being a half size biggger, as my toes are a bit squashed in but they look fine so I will keep them. Too much faff to exchange.

Also "How to meet a man after 40" has arrived:j Am a bit horrified to discover that if you are not married by 40 you only have a 2.6% chance , so I had better get cracking. Think I shall add good with cars to my list, am sick of paying silly money for silly things, when I could be buying fabby shoes and books. :D

Poor Sarah, more hugs from me :grouphug: .

  • Cars are gits!!! Mine has it's engine warning and EPS warning lights on, I paid £104 today for 6 months road tax, it's due it's MOT in 3 weeks and the back light is being held in with parcel tape while I wait for a bodywork repair!!!! Horrid beasts that they are.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

Suggest ignoring the stat it's liable to be bunkum. (Believe me, I work with statisticians and you can make numbers do almost anything!) It's probably about as true as the '30+ women in NYC more likely to be killed by terrorists than marry' - just headlining nonsense.

Anyway this reminds me, we have a new guy at work who is being very friendly :D . I shall keep you posted.

    Hopefully it'll all be covered.

Glad the shoes have arrived, so now you can try them on with all your "fabby" clothes & put together some new "f*** off I'm fabulous" outfits :rotfl:

The author the "How to meet a man after 40" was on Steve Wright yesterday but he hardly gave her a chance to say anything

You just need to follow the "meet a man" bit Sarah, don't worry about the married bit, marriage is over rated

I have heard many a time that marriage is over rated but I would like the chance to find out:D You're right though, not that bothered about actual marriage, will stick with meeting a man for the moment.

And I certainly do intend to create some f*** off, I'm fabulous outfits.;)

Sarah I can sympathise with the car my last one cost an arm and a leg, there was always something, glad when I got rid of it.
Inky I'll get the recipe, for my flap jacks, I made some more today and when I opened the oven the smell was fab, the original recipe is with blackberries.

right the recipe for Blackberry oat bars,
    225g plain flour
    200g porrige oats
    250g butter
175g caster sugar, i use normal sugar
100g pecan nuts, or what ever chopped nuts
    300g blackberries

1, put your oven on 190c/170cfan/ gas5. line your tin I use a 6x6 tin thats 2 cm deep.
2,put flour and oats in mixing bowl. Add butter and rub in with fingertips, stir in caster sugar and nuts.
3, spread 2/3rds of the mxture in tin press it down, scatter blackberries on top, sprinkle on rest of mixture, I use the berries frozen and press the mixture down. If the berries are fresh I tend to squash them when I press them down.
4, bake for 40-45 mins, cut in to slices while hot but leave till cool b4 removing from tin.
they are quite filling and taste better than shop bought.
