    Another update:

It is now over three weeks since I sent my complaint via the FLA, and haven't heard anything back from Barclays Partner Finance.

So I have just phoned FLA, and they are phoning Barclays Partner Finance today. So fingers crossed I hope to get a refund of the money they 'stole' from in before Christmas.

Never received either dont reognise the debt and they cant even tell me what it was for or who the retailer was!

Hi. My daughter’s account was of course genuine, but they didn’t seem to know the details clearly. My feeling is that they’re chancers in the money market, and every now and then they hit on people who don’t keep good records or have bad memories.

In our case, they finally admitted that the debt was fully paid off, and then weeks later phoned my daughter to say she’d missed her first and second payment! They never came back after that. They’re certainly not the sort of company to care that someone who they upset and worried without cause is left not knowing about an apparent overdue debt.

If yours is an ‘out of the blue’ claim, all I can say is it’d take a lot for me to even bother responding to a claim from out of nowhere for money I knew nothing about. If they can’t even tell you what it was for, or who the retailer was, they must be picking people at random to harass.

Their telephone customer service is dismal too.

There ARE good professional finance companies around - Barclays Partner Finance isn’t one of them though.
  • Barclays Partner Finance is a trading name of Clydesdale Financial Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Barclays Bank PLC. Their address is PO Box 3979, Glasgow, G51 1YL. The contact number is 0844 811 9000.

    Hope this helps.
  • I never did get that copy of the original signed contract so I am now going to make a complaint as I have waited long enough / given them enough chances as I have been pre-occupied on other things lately ;)

  • sorry my first post is a random hy-jack of someones thread...I googled the "lending code" and barclays partner finance together and found this thread.... so here I am in all my skintness having just spoken to some idiot at BPF who was frankly rude and unhelpful.
There I was offering (as advised by one of their staff I spoke to last month) X amount per month in repayment only to have someone being rather rude and forceful to me and informing me I would have to do a budget sheet to work out repayment levels.
So with the assistance of the national debt helpline I am doing just that...and currently it looks like they will be lucky to get a fiver a month out of me!!!
I thought I was the only one having issues with BPF...apparently not..so its a comfort to know it's not just me...but sorry anyone else is in the same boat :(

Something interesting that was said to me by the NDH...the people you speak to at BPF are usually on commision therefore it's pot luck as to how helpful they are depending on whether they have met their personal monthly targets...hence the person I spoke to last month being optomistic and helpful.

Anyway...I'm now angling at giving them a much smaller monthly payment due to their bad manners...what a shame eh!!

I dont see why I should have to send out a letter to request the info in writing, they stated they recorded the telephone calls stating they sending details out to me so surely I can go ahead now and make an official complaint? Otherwise its wasting more time getting nowhere?

Proof? "But the call was recorded - oops I hit delete"
Always in writing and signature on delivery.

Also wouldn't it be nice for no debt collector to be allowed to phone you up at all hours of the day? This can easily be done with a 2 sentence letter. "I do not wish to discuss my financial affairs by telephone. Please send all future correspondence in writing, either by post or email ...."

My best advice is KEEP YOUR OWN RECORDS!

I had a debt chaser chasing me for a payment which originally I thought I had paid (almost certain I had and it never appeared on my credit report). The mobile account was closed in 2004 and payed off - then they chased me again in 2007. I couldn't find the receipt so I bit the bullet and as it was only £32 payed it again. This time I kept the receipt. Now guess what? They are chasing me again for the same "debt" which is not on my credit file, which I have paid twice and have proof of once.
  • I have been getting calls by barclays partner finance but since I have had no correspondance in letter form from them or any other company regarding and debts i refuse to answer their security questions to check that I am indeed the person they are calling for. I dont have any loans/debts and am not a bad payer of any financial arrangement i am in so have no idea as to why they are contacting me. They refuse to say why or for what arrangement they want to speak to me about so i refuse to confirm anything with them. I have asked them to send letters instead but have had nothing from them at all. what can I do in this situation?

Wait until they send a letter.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • They wont tell you anything until you can pass security, and if you have changed address recently and missed them out, then they cannot contact you to advise you of the problem by post.

You never have to deal with people when they call you, and they *should* understand if you prefer to call Customer Services to check (just checked SayNoTo0870 for 0844 811 9000 and got 01236 681763 AND 01236 681763, I've not checked if they work).

I'd call customer services and check the situation on your account.

If you dont want to do that, then your only option is to check your credit file to see if there's any missed payments, and if you dont agree with anything on there, most of the websites have a 'credit file dispute helpline' you could talk to.

I used to work for a collections department and OH how I hate Dialers - to save time, dialers call about 10 people and only expect a certain amount, on average, to pick up. This means that if more then average actually pick up the phone, the call drops on the person randomly! :@ muchus irratationus for both sides.
