Thanks Tim. That looks useful. So far, I’ve written back to say the £29 charge is nowhere to be seen. I’m obviously hoping that they will check back to their Clydesdale Financial Services era, and see that the agreement was different then.

Yesterday I googled Barclays Partner Finance and came up with dozens of disaster stories concerning Barclays Partner Finance behaving extremely badly over almost any customer issue, so it does not look promising.

    Thanks for your help!

Well that link was given to me by the financial services ombudsman, as the FLA are the regulatory body.
  • Hi

    Just an update,

I sent a letter to Barclays Partner Finance some time ago requesting the paperwork in writing and heared nothing back, didnt even get a letter to say account now settled.

Having a lot of family problems around since then it has gone to the bottom of priorities until last week when I received a phonecall from - yes you guessed it Barclays Partner Finance. As I wasn't expecting this call out of the blue but had only just recently contacted Barclays Bank customer services on a completely different matter I assumed I was speaking with Barclays Bank customer care as I caught the word 'Barclays', I then confirmed the security details and it was then it became clear what was happening and the thought "oh no here we go again" ran through my mind :o

I allowed the person to finish telling me I owe them money on a purchase loan for something I purchased at Currys electrical store etc and firmly but calmly told them I had spoken to them recently and had been told that the debt was now cleared and that I was STILL waiting for a reply to my letter requesting the original contract and I did not owe them anything and I wasnt falling for this again! The man floundered for a while and came back appologising saying it was on 'automatic dial' and he had just read the notes! He said he would get both the letter of confirmation the account was settled AND the original contract in the post that day.

Guess what - yep I am still waiting! But I havent had any more phonecalls (yet :rotfl: ). So where do I stand now?

Last comunication by phone was on Monday 3rd November.
Last letter I sent to them was over 2 months ago.

What do I do now? I will try the above and contact the OFT and see where that gets me.

I really think Barclays Bank needs to get involved here as its their reputation that is at steak as even the letterheads are the same and its so easy to get confused and both Barclays Bank AND BPF have both stated to me they have no connection with one another!!!!

    Thanks

    H
  • I have realised since last post that I have never had a letter from either Clydesdale or Barclays Partner Finance to inform me of the 'takeover' and the first letter I have advising of the issue was from Barclays Partner FInance, until then if I ever did have any arrangement with them it was running smoothly. However I have checked back on all my account statements and not one of them shows any Direct Debits for either BPF or Clydesdale Financial services!! No wonder I am feeling conned and suspicious! :(

I really dont know what to do next as I fear if I contact BPF they will begin harassing me again and I just cant face anymore of that at the moment. :o

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    H

  • Well I am gobsmacked I have just received a letter in the post that is from Barclays Partner Finance and it reads:

    Dear Mrs X

Good News! As of today the balance on your CURRY'S account has been settled in full.

Thanks for using our finance, you never know we may be able to help you again in the future!

If you need to speak to us agaib in the future, call us on 0844 811 9000.

    Yours sincerely

    Mrs Anne Smith
    Customer Communications Manager.

At the bottom of the letter it has some text informing me that Barclays Partner Finance - the new name for Clydesdale Financial Services and Barclaycard Motor Loans, PO Box 3979, Glasgow, G51 1YL. Authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority Registered No: 2901725. Registered Office: 1 Churchill Place, London, E14 5HP

Might be useful to someone so thought it worth copying out

Anyway they are still adamant its for something I purchased at Curry's which I doubt still and I as yet havent received any copy of the agreement.

    Thanks

    H
  • Another little update

I decided to call BPF to tell them I am still waiting after several requests for a copy of my original signed agreement.

He said he can see that I requested this on 3rd November but nothing was done about it. He then went on to say that I had also requested it some months ago which I had to confirm I did not receive. He then confirmed my address details were correct and said he would action a copy be sent out, and I should receive it in the next couple of weeks, however he cannot speed up this and get it to me any earlier unfortunately. Couldn't explain why they had not been ordered previously!

    I wait with anticipation! :rotfl:

Oh and according to their official website they are connected with Barclays Bank! They have told me several times in the past they are not related in any way!

    Thanks

    H.

Both are part of the Barclaycard Group, but they have ZERO operational involvement with each other.

It is also possible that Barclays bought the debt from HFC which would be why you do not recognise the financing.
