Want to change from Talk Talk but which supplier to move to?

I've had a Talk Talk broadband & phone package for almost 2 years, so I'm now outside my contract period of 18 months. I currrently pay around £19.99pm and want to switch down to the £16.99 per month option, but they won't let me do this -they said I would have to cancel then re-join. Needless to say, if I wanted to upgrade my package they would do that no problem! My broadband often kicks me out and they can't solve it, so along with this, I've decided to move supplier. I've no idea who to go with though. I'll need broadband (wireless would be nice) and line rental. I have a HD freeview box so don't need TV.
Any suggestions?

You will need to get your BT line reinstated first. Most ISPs want you to have a BT line.I think if you commit to an 18 month contract with BT you can get it for £30 rather than £125.
Its possible that if there is another LLU operator at your exchange you may be able to avoid this, someone else may know.
Was not aware that Freeview had got an HD service? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Sorry, meant HDD (hard disk drive) - duh! :rotfl:
I don't understand why I'd need to go back to BT - what's an LLU? Can I just not go with, say, Tiscali for their line rental and BB? (Although I don't want to go with them as heard awful things about them, just using it as an example).

There's nothing to imply the line isn't still with BT.
Happily for me I still paid my line rental to BT when I was with TalkTalk - when I tried to cancel their CS told me that if I did so that they would cancel my line!! (Even afer I went through several iterations of I'm a CPS customer).. Followed by several iterations of "how can you cancel my BT line for which I pay BT the line rental and have a contract with them to supply the line?". The answer was always - we can and we will!
Strangely when I said go a head then, the only result was that my calls started being routed via BT and I still have my line
I would suggest for the OP to maybe consider BT or Tiscali, as both will do calls and broadband. Or if you're in a cable area then Virgin Media.
LLU = Local Loop Unbundled - ie the actual line is supplied by e.g. TalkTalk0 -
If the Op is paying TT £19.99p a month he will be on a Talk Talk LLU bundle. Tiscali will not accept you unless you have a BT proper line. But everything i read suggests they should be given a wide berth.0

I am in the same position, leaving TalkTalk after around 3 years. I have a LLU unbundled line and I'm going back to BT for the line and Sky for Broadband since I already have TV with them.
Do you have a contract mobile phone with Orange or O2? I hear good things about their broadband which they offer discounted for their present customers.0 -
This about Tiscali is a load of rubbish, I keep reading about it, i have been with them for over 4 years and they are brilliant, i even have my TV with them.
Even though there seams to be the rumours on them they do not loose the numbers like BT and others, they are doing something right0 -

Obviously they do have some happy customers like yourself, but you cant get away from it they are the most complained about ISP.0 -
Probably because it's one of the biggest ISPs
And lets not mention that there are in fact only a couple of big ISPs out there - the rest piggy back of their networks (which in turn partially piggy back off BT, NTL etc....)
In case you're interested then Tiscali are putting a huge amount of work into improving the customer experience and the technical support is pretty good in my experience...
As for the intermittent connectivity fault you're getting then have you noticed any pattern to it? Times of day? When it rains? (I'm not kidding...)
Personally I know how utterly useless Talktalk tech support are so I doubt they have done even basic line tests on your line but anyway... start by logging when your line has dropped off to see if you can see a pattern even before you call...
Oh and if it's a fault with the cable or wiring at the exchange or the green box then changing suppliers isn't likely to change it... sorry... only if it's the actual tied pair or the ISPs LLU equipment at the exchange are you likely to seean improvement...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! If your out of contract, there is no reason why you should not be able to change Talk plans to a lower one.
Try joining the TalkTalk Members forums and asking for assistance, we should be able to assist you with this one.
