What we're thinking of doing, is getting the Sky Pay Once package (Argos so we get £5 voucher) then ion a few months time, dump Sky & get Freesat, 'cos we'll have a new dish, courtesy of Sky, fro £70ish!!

Hi - I came back home the other day and aerial installers were installing a new aerial for freeview. Live in a block of 12 flats. This was news to me as run by a management company but all good and well. Anyway they couldn't do it as they kept getting dropouts.

They are apparently in negotiations with the management company to install Freesat instead. I was just wondering how they would do this and would it involve drilling lots of new holes and big cable runs?

Obviously if the upgraded aerial had worked then the existing aerial cables could be used and was simply a case of switching the aerial but does Freesat involve extra cabling and more cost - to 12 flats?

Pretty gutted TBH as I thought that if you had a decent enough aerial you could get Freeview anywhere - it is not as though we live in the sticks. Then again we have never even had channel 5 on normal TV must be 10 years after it launched lol.
  • been looking at freesat, i think its a waste of money. you pay approx £150 for a box that can recieve 2 hd channels, both of which are only on occasionally. there are no plans to increase the depth of hd channels on freesat, seems likea waste of money to me

Vansboy - that's exactly what I did, £75 for the Sky install, slipped the installer an extra few quid (I'd made him a cuppa, but he still didn't bite till I offered cash) to put on a 4 way LNB and wire 2 into the living room and 2 into the roofspace. The Sky trial has now run out and it's time for me to buy the recorder. I've a standard Sky box in the living room and one in the study.
Savemoney - I wanted to know where you got the actual BOX from - the best I could find on a quick search would be £289 from Argos with the £10 voucher for spending £100+

Argos don't have any, nor it seems does anyone else at the moment, all sold out, unless anyone knows different.

But the only cost is the box

Freeview when that first came out wasn't particularly good over the years its improved

I believe the HD channels are restricted due to competition rules and because in fairness freesat is new.

Argos I ordered on Tuesday night it was suppose to come yesterday but it hasn't. I can only assume it was delayed because of the adverse weather, as I was assured by Argos at 5.30pm that the box should be with me on Thursday

The Humax pvr boxes are rare to get hold off at mo, it took me a week to being persistent. I just happened to be lucky with Argos as I tried loads of times and could only get it via home delivery
