Help please. Just bought a new TV HD ready. Using a Sky box to receive Sky Freeview (can't receive just Freeview here so have to use box). Went onto Channel 143 BBC HD but the blue screen comes up and says 'Call 0870 404020 for further information on how to receive this HD channel' - (Don't think so Mr Murdoch - not at your charges!)
So can anyone help me please to get HD without phoning 0870 etc. The 'Saynoto0870' site mentions 01506 484040 but that has now been discontinued.0 -
richendasc you can only get free HD if you get a Freesat box dont confuse this with sky it has nothing to do with sky.Free BBC HD is only available on a new freesat box purchased around May 2008 when it was launched0

I have a question for Freesat users: is there any box/device between your dish and the Freesat box? Or does the cable from the dish just connect straight to the set-top box?
I'm asking because the flat I rented has what looks like a Sky Digital minidish mounted already (so no need to ask LL about installation) but the previous tenant left about 1.5ft of cable running into the room without any connector. I can attach the correct F connector fairly easily but just want to find out if I'll be missing any bits.0 -
I very much doubt that there would be anything between the cable and receiver, every satellite receiver that I have come across has a standard " F " connector.0

We've switched to Freesat from Sky and there is nothing between the LNB on the dish and the Freesat box other than the cabling and F connectors.0 -
If you will be wanting a freesat recorder when they are available (see http://www.freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=products.Main) then you might need to upgrade the LNB to a quad LNB if it is currently only a single LNB. If a sky plus box has been used in the past with the dish then you should be fine as is.

Has anyone done the sums to see what the advantages are of having Freesat rather than cable TV from Virgin?0
-
The sums are. New dish and LNB (if you dont have a dish) say £100. New freesat box £60 for a SD one, £120-£150 for a HD freesat box. £299 for a twin PVR. Nothing else to pay after that.0
