Try the Amazon site - they seem to have a good price at the moment.

Other than that, you could ask on the I Wanna board where lots of people help find good prices.

  • hey this is supposed to be a moneysaving forum - just read this thread and now desperately want to splash out on a breadmaker!!
Have my eye on the Panasonic SD-253 and have spent the last hour checking prices of them. Amazon still seems to be the cheapest (if you don't have CostCo membership) at £76.97 inc delivery (+ I have a £16 Amazon voucher sitting around waiting to be used from doing surveys at https://www.mediatransfer.com ) don't know if I can justify it though.

Hi Kiwichick (funky new name!! :D )

I've just been bought the Morphy Richards Fastbake for my birthday, and I think it's fabulous. DH paid 39.99 for it from Argos (reduced from 44.99) so as breadmakers go, it's great value.

It makes 3 sizes of loaf in a rectangular tin (lots of BM's have square tins that I personally find a bit wierd), it has a timer delay of up to 13 hours, it makes all the usual types of bread plus cakes, dough (pizza etc), and jam. It's idiot proof to use and doesnt take up masses of space.

Personally I wouldnt swap it for the world. Hope this helps.

Anyone tried the Breville??? These are the specs...

The Breville BR6 Breadmaker is a compact breadmaker which bakes 1kg & 750g loaf.

12 programmes including jam cake and pasta dough settings.
    15 hour pre set timer.
    3 crust settings.
    Sandwich style loaf.
    Rapid bake.
Auto fruit and nut dispenser with beep.

This sounds pretty good AND costs £44.99 from Tesco online AND you get FREE delivery AND triple clubcard points...132 in this case!!!

Have never tried a BM myself but all my friends swear by 'em and am desperate for one after reading this thread!!! :p

This is the one I was using before I switched to the Panasonic, and to be honest I wasn't overly impressed with it. The white loaves were very "cakey" and each and every wholegrain/granary type loaf I tried came out like bricks

The only bonus is that you can make jam in it, whereas you can't in the Panasonic ;)

I love my Morphy Richards twin loaf Rapide, I can do a white and a wholemeal at the same time and it does all sorts of other things too. I don't think you can buy these any more but luckily you can still get the paddles as I am forever losing mine :D

You all seem to have V.expensive and swanky models. Is anyone in Ol'Style land using a cheap and cheerful one and happy with the results? My Mellerware was under £40 four years ago and the bread and jam it produces are great.

Mine was a christmas present from DH last year. He got it from Cash Converters (new but graded stock) and although he would never tell me how much he paid for it, it was apparently a lot less than I thought.
