Are breadmakers really money saving??

For clarity, I'm using thriftlady's recipe (post 5) from this thread and boy am I full! I've had one sandwich and a crust and it feels like I've had a complete lunch. I suspect my brother's loaves are a bit less dense - they certainly rise further but I suspect that's because the tin in the bread machine has straight high sides whereas my 2 lb traditional loaf tin isn't so tall and has sloping sides.
