Ignore above posts from me - I have reposted as a new thread!!
  • Banks are looking at severe financial hardship which is priority debt arrears ie rent/mortgage. council tax. utilities.
I would sit down and work out how much you normally spend excl bank charges and how much you earn and try and cut down as much as you can and see whether when you do an income and expenditure form whether it is a plus or minus

Sorry but I can tell you used to work for a bank. All my money goes on paying my bills and getting myself to work everyweek, I already know I don't earn enough and therefore am slowly incurring more and more charges every month because of direct debits going out at the wrong time/right time. I thought I could come here and ask for advise not be patronised and spoken to like the morans at Halifax treat you.

NWSM was not being patronising in the least. However, if you are going to snap at anyone just because they tell you something you don't want to hear, you're not going to recieve much sympathy.

Cassie, take a step back and re read the post. The first part is what is happening on the ground today. You may see me posting a lot here, but what you don't see is the amount of information I search out. The approach I outline here is one which an Ombudsman might likely judge your case on.

Now, the first comment you made isn't too bad because I did work for a bank for 10 years, 8 of which were in Student Banking Branches with face to face customers(the ones who might shout at you when they are having a bad day--it did happen on occasions).

Now for more advice, can you see if the direct debit providers are able to change the date of the direct debits or can you simply pay when the bill is sent out? Can you pay by standing order so that you take control of the payments rather than what appears to be happening which is that the payments are taking over you.

Cassie, I wasn't patronising you but please remember not to bite the hand that is trying to help you(and I am trying to help you).

we went down the hardship route with nationwide and filled out a form and even though we are in arreas with the mortgage and other loans and bills they said no as it is not there fault we are in hardship. We were amazed by this as surely some of it is down to them and a payout now would really help us. We have just left it with the ombudsman now.
I would say just stick with it as I am also in your situation with Nationwide and waiting for the FOS get your MP involved and keep writing to them every few weeks I am sure they will have to pay up soon.

Nationwide are one of the better ones with regards to sending out letters outlining their reasons. Under financial hardship no bank has to repay even 1p under financial hardship but they can suspend interest and charges or they can make an interim payment. It depends on whether a lifestyle issue, ie loss of job, separation from partner, has lead to charges and the charges have impacted on your ability to pay priority debt arrears.

  • Hi I took some of the templates off this website and wrote claiming back in excess of £5k worth of bank charges claimed against us in the last 6 years, had the same series of letters then a letter offering me £21.00 and 3 months of no charges, I have challenged this with the finc ombudsman and today got a letter offering the same 3 months grace and a refund of £511.00. I have rejected this offer, ( hope this is the right thing to do ) but have written back confirming what I am prepared to accept, does anyone have a view on whether this is right or wrong, and if you accept are you forfitting your entire claim on full and final, the letter from the ombudsman suggests not?

    Any help / advise welcomed.

    Thanks:confused:

    Hi

I have just gone onto SSP, would I meet the financial hardship criteria? I've got approx £90 shortfall each month now!

You have got nothing to lose by trying, alter the templates to suit your circumstances and push for it, I did and finally I am getting somewhere.

    Good Luck
