You probably won't want to hear this suggestion but I would honestly wait until baby is here and then decide. Just buy disposables ready for first few weeks and then think about what you want to do once life has settled down a bit. Make it as easy as you can on yourselves for the first month or so when you will totally sleep deprived and lucky if you have the time and energy to wash your clothes let alone nappies!

I'm not saying don't use terries but just give yourselves a break to start with. Take all the help you can get in the early days then make your decisions about what's best going forward.

My sister is using reusables for her baby - she is 3 months now. She started off in disposables for ease of use and changed about 4/6 weeks ago.

i don`t think you can go far wrong with motherease, they are probably the best reusable nappy on the market at the moment. they are quite expensive at about £8 each but when you consider you can use them from the day your child is born to the day its potty trained these are well worth the initial investment and will save you £££`s over the course of their use. i can highly recommend them, they are really well made and have loads of poppers on them so you can do them up to the right size for your baby. use these in conjunction with the motherease air flow wraps and your baby will have the best you can buy the rolls royce of nappies :rotfl: . have a look on ebay for them
proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance! :p

the motherease wraps are always being recommened on places like this but you don't have to have the same nappy as wrap and until you know if your baby is long legged or chunky or whatever it's hard to know which to get as different body types suit different nappies. Some of the websites do very good value trial kits that have one of each of a selection of nappies and they're usually good value. I wouldn't buy a birth to potty kit personally as you could end up spending a lot of money on something that's not right for your child although if you can get a bargain secondhand it's worth considering and you can always sell them on if they don't suit you.
  • Contact your local council. Many now have incentive schemes/ trials for nappy laundry schemes or certain nappy retailers.
There are a bewildering range of nappies out there of the web, but Little Lambs are good and good value if you buy one of their 'all-in' sets.

  • if i have any advice for you from my nappy use its buy lots of different types. You can then decide what works best for you. I find pocket nappies great at the moment but prefolds and terries are so cheap i love them too. As for your MIL having your wifes nappies from when she was a baby... I use some that where used on me too lol. And invest in fleece to cut up for fleece liners, they are great! but id say use disposables or at least flushable liners for the first week or so while u wait for the black poo to go :) good luck!

I think some of them will send a free sample. Perhaps it would be a good idea to go on each website and ask for one.

We also had the plan to do terrys with our little one, however this has not worked out as expected. So we are using disposables and trying to make massive savings in other areas both financially and environmentally. We believe the time spent with our son, when not washing the terrys is well worth it. Especially as we have waited so long for him (7 years in total of trying and he was only placed with us for adoption two weeks ago)
Personally don't feel pressured to do anything, sus it out when bambino arrives.
