Maybe I am misinterpreting something here, but a lot of the posts on here have said that IA is spending money on things she can't afford and is spending money she doesn't have.
That is not the case at all.. She has a debt (car debt) that is being paid off and the interest is the interest when all is said and done. As far as I am aware she has a 0% interest on a TV that she intends to pay off (or have I missed something there). She also has an egg card that she puts things on and then pays it off.
Basically IA MANAGES her finance. Her 'debt' may go up and down but it stays more down than up. If she wants something she works out how to pay for it. Whats wrong with that! We are not on here to live like pious 'never spend any money ever' people, but to live. You should work to live, not live to work. A tattoo or other things may seem frivolous to some people who are in a bad place right now, but IA has served her time and is now reaping the benefits..

Ive only just read the start of this but Id like to add my bit. Becoming debtfree is a huge struggle, Im struggling myself. Life is very hard nowadays especially when youve got children. There are unexpected expenses cropping up all the time. Its difficult to go on for years and years without spending money. If you spend money on a few pleasures now and again then who can blame you? Who can blame you for wanting a holiday? Life in debt is very dreary. As long as you get there in the end is all that matters. After all you are very young. Dont be so hard on yourself and if you want to be on here then be on here and dont let anyone push you away. S0d em, thats what I say.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

If I may say I feel it is a bit unfair naming people who you do not agree with. People who were not aware of who you had not agreed with now will treat these posters with , I feel , a bit of distrust.
I can not speak for the second person mentioned but i know for a fact that the first person mentioned has done a stirling job in helping other people and has been the linchpin of the DMP support thread and has helped greatly posters in distress.
If we cannot agree then can we not try to get on and if your thread does annoy somewhat the first person mentioned then I agree she should not read your thread or certainly not reply on it

Not completly sure what is going on here but there are people on the boards doing a lot worse things than overspending. We are seeing more and more people looking for easy options and scamming their way out of debt. As far as I've seen IA has only every tried to control her own finances and help other people, she is also trying to better herself.Barclaycard 3800

The issue and the reason she feels miffed is because she feels she is slagged off for doing anything wrong....
Well no, i kinda think that if i was good friends with someone in "real life" and i didn't think their choices were good ones, then i would say something... i wouldn't expect to be called a troll for expressing a different opinion in real life, so why on here? Not saying i've ever been called a troll, but y'know what i mean!
What value is there in saying, yeah you've got debt you're working bloody hard to pay it off, you're struggling week to week financially but yeah why don't you buy yourself a new console, or a tattoo or whatever.... a friend would say "well are you sure this is a good idea now." "Can you afford it really?"
I think if you give over everything about yourself on here, good and bad, then people assume that you want them to comment on it all, so they do.
I know some people are being argumentative for the sake of it but it isn't everyone who expresses an opinion who is doing it outta badness... usually the trolls are easy to spot (and are illiterate!)
Sorry if i'm repeating myself, but if the thread is still on P1, then i thought it would be good to get it back on topic. ( Snaggles!!)
This is what I wanted to say, but was too afraid to type out in case it came out wrong.sammy115 wrote:That is not the case at all.. and this is the bit I think that's causing the problems.
There has become a pattern of IA supporters saying you're fantastic, you deserve it, buy it because you've worked out how to pay for it, so it's ok to get into more debt.
vs
The traditional MSE people, who follow the line, if you want it save first, then buy it.
The IA supporters line is lovely, huggy and happy clappy, BUT, I'm not sure it's in anyway really helpful to someone who wants to become debt free. To me it's like telling an alcoholic, you've had a tough day, you deserve a glass of wine. That doesn't just apply to IA, it applies to everyone on this board.
and IA,
1) you're not a failure until you stop trying and
2) the only person you should care about letting down, is yourself.0
