Have you considered something like www.voipdiscount.com who offer free calls to a number of destinations including UK Landlines. You need to buy credit but you can use it up if you exceed the free 5 hour weekly allowance,or if you call chargeable destinations.

  • Can't see the problem (unless you haven't a landline) - if you have a landline just use call13434.ie - its 0.5c a min to the UK

    http://www.13434.ie/index2.php

and you can use it off your mobile.

  • To get an understanding of your position -
    1) You haven't a landline
    2) Thus no internet or a ltd access from home (is this mobile broadband?)

What I can't understand is - if you're using 500+ mins a month back to the UK how is it only costing £20-£25pcm?

If you can provide a bit more background, it'll be easier to help.

Are you in an area for 3 coverage in Ireland?
How much are 3 for mobile broadband (in Ireland) if you're within reach of their network.
    http://www.three.co.uk/personal/products_services_/planet_three/communicate_/international_/international_saver.omp

Could you not add a bundle for another 500 mins or go up a price plan to get the 500 mins that you need?

    1) no land line
    2) internet by clearwire works similar to mobile phone too the isp
the problem is they don't allow calls to landlines with Skype or voip
they do allow skype to skype
    3) im with meteor their plan gives me 400 free min any network in the republic
    and free meteor to meteor
however uk calls cost 22c per minute. international calls cost 59 and 75
so for 50.00 Euro i get 400 mins to any number and my family is on meteor so all txt and calls are free to them.
3)3 is here but again uk is international call rate not in mins package and also if i go to them my family bill goes up.(looked at 3 before)
what im trying to do is call the uk for less
    hence this thread
if i had proper internet ie eircom ,ntl, or bt i would not be in this position
4)mobile broadband is a no no at the minute to expencive
have to remember customer base in republic is 3.4 million
(however if you want to call Poland ,,,,,need i say more.)
my wife is from Lithuania no discounts for that country either!
    !rant over
also parents dont have net, nor do they use computer,
however what ive done is as imagia suggested ive set up my parents with a skype account set up their uk number as the call forwarding number brought 10.00 euros of credit on there account .
so ive just skyped them ,,obviously they wernt on line so skype diverted the call to there land line and i got computer to landline for 2c a min
so i can now ring them any time for 2c a min thats 500 mins for 10.00 compared to about 40mins
problem solved all i have to do is top up their account to continue the calls

  • Good to know that your problem is resolved.

A clever solution via Skype - I never knew you could that.

I wonder if this would mean that if you wished you could use this via the Skypephone from 3 that only alloes Skype to Skype? So you could buy a cheap contract if you needed to be mobile.
This is really a question to anyone knowledgeable on the 3 Skypephone.

Another bonus would appear to be under your present method - that all your calls could cost only £1.95 a month
via Callforwarding - since this is unltd calls to UK landlines for £1.95

One final point - you said that mobile broadband was expensive - 3 seem to do a deal for 10GB for €16.99 - again phone restrictions but seems incredibly cheap.

clever solution i dident know about it till yestarday either but it was worth gambiling 10.00 euro
id have to say yes out of hand, if i had a skype phone and looked up my parents it should call forward to them the same as on the computer
3dont charge for skype to skype and that is basicly what you are doing.
call costs ave 30 euro a month =120/140 mins
calls now at .02cent inc vat 500mins for 10.00euro
min saveings of 240 p/a if spend 10 every month
so probably nearer to a 300 euro saving

going into the account now and going to change number to my sisters phone and see what happens
if i remember correctly from last night you can entre 3 or 4 numbersfor call forwarding.
internet 3 does look cheep i pay 29 amonth for clearwire but wunder what the catch is, must check internet limet to see what ive got and what my ave use is.
if under 10g might be worth looking into..

    happy
    happy
    happy
now what debt can i clear faster with the 30.00 euro a month
    this money saving is contagious.
