I want to make a fresh proper bread dough pizza for dinner tonight.
I have a recipe but I am wondering how far in advance I can make it? I dont want to end up with a loaf of bread but neither do I want to have to wait until dinner time to make the dough.
Can it be made a few hours in advance and put in the fridge?0 -

Yes - I make the dough leave it to rise then knock it back, put it in a bowl, cover it with cling film and put it in the fridge until I'm ready.
When I'm about ready I take it out of the fridge, you'll probably find it's risen again - depending on how long it's been in the fridge, but that doesn't matter - roll it then leave it for 15 - 20 mins before putting it in the oven.
You can also freeze it, I freeze any left over dough.0 -
This is by far my favourite pizza dough recipe so far:
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4683/pizza-margherita-in-4-easy-steps
It's easy and turns out well. It usable instantly, but I find letting it rest a while makes it a bit better. I also add quite a bit more olive oil than they suggest, about 3-4 tbsp.0 -
how did the pizza go? i merged this with our pizza dough thread
Please check the pizza collection - it took me hours!!!!! Heaps of links.

I'm wanting to make the hairy dieters pies which are made with pizza dough instead of pastry. I know the filling will be ok to freeze (it's just mince and onion) but I was wondering if the pizza dough case would freeze ok. The recipe makes 6 pies so I'd like to batch cook them and freeze some. Just wondered if anyone had done this0

I freeze my pizza dough all the time. I make it, let it rise the once, knock it back, portion it and double wrap tightly in film to freeze
Never had a problem with it0 -
Pizza dough freezes fine both cooked and frozen. I always keep some balls of pizza dough in the freezer, and it thaws perfectly if you leave it in the fridge overnight. I also have frozen partially cooked bases and again, they've been fine.0
