Tell me about shopping at Lidl's ...

I called in at Lidl on my way home from work tonight, just to see what they were like. I couldn't do my main shop there (I'm a Morrisons fan, so am quite used to cheapish prices) but I found myself doing some serious Christmas food shopping.
A good start but don't be shy. Lidl is much cheaper than Morrisons and the quality is often better. Go the whole hog. Load up your trolley with everythig you'd normally buy at another supermarket (other than the few products Lidl don't carry) and give Lidl a fair try. I mean generic products like corn flakes. Don't look for Kelloggs over-priced brand. The Lidl taste is slightly different, in this example, but just as good at a fraction of the cost.
Some of my favourites include cherry bakewells, fresh fruit and veg, dry cure bacon (an absolute bargain), beer at 59p for a 500ml can, fresh bread, fresh chickens, lean mince...and many more items.

Lidl .... aaaahh Lidl's ;D
I used to shop there some time ago (a friend worked there and I would end up doing some shopping whilst there). I personally haven't been back for a while. But funnily enough, we're planning a big shop there on wednesday ;D There are three things that I ALWAYS buy from there (send the other half to do it ;D)
1. Olive oil .... lovely and nice big bottles & very cheap.
2. Dried Salad herb dressing ..... Yummy and dirt cheap, lasts ages too
And most importantly ....
3. Loo roll, as mentioned previously with the little flowers on. 4ply, long lasting, huge bag (was it 12 or 18 ???) and very very cheap, the best I have ever had the pleasure of using ;D
They also have this strange yogurt like thing, with a jellyish/jammy layer at the bottom ...... Ohhhhh, yum .... I'm hungry now ..... off to compile my shopping list ;D
Wednesdays are a good day, they often sell things of cheaply to make room for the Thursday specials, which makes Thursdays a good day too ;D ;DI can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!I thunk I've made you think for a minute!:j :rotfl: :j0 -
Nobody's mentioned the boxes of chocolate sea creatures - fabulous choc & only £1.59 ,I think.
All their chocs seem great - I don't think they contain any hydrogenated vegetable fats, only cocoa butter.Nice to save.0 -
I can't wait to go now! ;D ;D0

I'm a regular shopper at Lidl's. The staff are always friendly and helpful too. Love it when their fruit & veg are half price!
BTW did you know the trollys take a 20p if you don't have a pound ?Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0 -
No-one's mentioned the nappies! I have 3 kids and have been single-handedly propping up the share price of Pampers for many years now, at great personal expense. Tried the Lidl nappies about 2 months ago and will never buy the other brands again. The only thing I'm disappointed about is that my youngest will be coming out of nappies within the next few months. When I work out how much I could have saved.... aaagh!
Also buy Hovis Granary bread there at 59p as opposed to 95p in Tesco. Bacon, butter, washing powder tablets and dishwasher tablets all come from Lidl now. Oh, and I've signed up for the weekly email update of non-food items and have got some great bargains lately.0 -

The Lidl's in Hastings has just been extended and is now double the size. We've been going there for over a year and I've got no qualms doing the bulk of our family shop there - much cheaper than Tescos, Sainsburys etc and unless you want specific brand names is great value. There is always a bit of trial and error involved discovering whether you like their stuff but we've discovered the following ....
Plusses - ice cream (especially the walnut and chocolate flavours), chilli cheese, salad stuff (I've never eaten so much rocket lettuce in my life), lager, chocolate, fruit juice (pear nectar is my favourite)
Minuses - own brand Coco Pops (my kids won't touch them), grapes (don't know why but they always seem to be soft).
Since the refurbishment at Hastings there is now a recorded message telling you to get a move on if you linger more than 3 milliseconds in the door. talk about getting the customers into the store!0 -
