If you did a subject access request to the bank, should they not still have those documents on file? Not sure about the process for reclaiming missold endowments but i think i've seen a few threads which mention that they are trying to claim even though they have been cashed in.

I saw threads on that too. Trouble is they sent me some great "nothing to worry about" letters then a "whoops your endowment will underperform by a million miles". I doubt very much they'd produce those for me! And I used to have all the projections, which showed huge surpluses!

I'll dig through my files but I'm expecting this to be a lost cause. I'm pretty angry with myself for not going through this process before cashing them in. Hindsight, eh?

Hi StuntmanBob. Unfortunately I have no specific advice to offer over and above what's already been mentioned.

One thing I did pick up on was posted by 'Red Fraggle':

"Also from experience with my DD and her dad - its the quality of time not the stuff they remember :-)"

How true this is. When I look back at my childhood, I remember the times I played football with my Dad, when we went camping as a family, having a picnic by the river etc. I just wish we did more things together; however I guess that's another story.

Anyway, I hope everything works out okay.

Remember not to give up on everything you enjoy otherwise the money saving will become more difficult. e.g. I think a few trips to the pub is essential if thats what you enjoy doing. It's just a case of keeping a close eye on the spending.

    Camping!!!

Not sure what your situation is with GF but camping raises some interesting challenges. Just make sure you have carry mats or it is a bot uncomfortable for middle aged bones..

On the other hand, it is a great way of having a cheap holiday with the kids. Pick up a tent off www.freecycle.org. Ot try stone barns, only a few quidd a night and nothing in the vicinity on which you can spend money.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Could you not write a very stern letter to your major customer and tell them to pay up or else you will start legal proceedings or maybe suggest that you can't wait for them forever and may go out of business so they feel really guilty (not sure if this would work or backfire - hmm) ? I'm sure there is a small business board or something around here- I would imagine they would have some good advice on what tone to use in the letter. It sounds like it might be the thing that makes the difference - especially where the revenue are concerned.

She'd be my ex-GF in about 5 seconds if I suggested camping. I think she was traumatised by family camping holidays or something :rotfl:

    Hi Bob.

I can see everyone has given you some great advice, but thought I might be able to offer some professional help re HMRC. I work in tax (can't believe I am admitting that!!!!) so deal with HMRC a lot! I presume that you are self-employed hence the two payments each year (and the size of them). Hopefully, you will get paid the hefty sum this month, but if not, definately speak to HMRC. They are much more understanding if you go to them rather than them chasing you. (If you do get through to the moran though, ask to speak to their manager!) Explain that you are waiting for someone to pay you, and they will hold off for a while. They will charge interest though (7.5% pa) but it's better than nothing.

Going forward, open a savings account, and everytime you get paid put at least 20% of this into the savings account. This will help towards future tax bills. (Your accountant should be able to give you a more precise figure for your circumstances but any little helps.) I know that you have other creditors, but HMRC are quite important.

Please feel free to PM me any specific questions re tax, I'll try and elp anyway I can.

Thanks, mate - I'm on it. Threatened legal action, gave them 28 days, they said they would pay, the 28 day deadline has expired. I'll give them another week in case they paid it on the 28th day. Then I'll have to begin proceedings. Just what I need at the moment.

If you tell a customer that if they don't pay you may go out of business, you can be sure that they won't pay up! There's no such thing as guilt in business. And I don't want to give the impression that I'm just a 2-bit company! I'm a mega corporation you know! ;)
