In a daze

I'm wandering about the house looking for stuff I can sell on eBay and I have to say I'm feeling awful. Items which were bought for much money now worth only a few quid. Lots of memories are coming back to me as I fight back the tears, cursing myself that I had my head in the sand for so long and just kept on spending.

You wouldn't believe how much stuff I have. An accumulation of what's now no more than junk.

Apologies for the self pity...

Bob, sending you a hug. Can you post your SOA and we'll see if we can help?

  • Hey Bob,

I'm in the same boat as you mate. Just thought I'd send you some hugs to let you know you are not alone. :grouphug:
  • I am in the same boat, a spare room, two sheds and an attic full of clutter. I'm listing 25 items a week aiming for £50 + per week, just think of all that untapped money we have lying around.
Busy mum of 3, so if my posts don't make sense or ask a silly question be patient:rotfl:

Bob, would it be easier clearing out by having say a DVD week, then a CD week, then a clothes week etc?

It's a mess. There's still lots of stuff on here which I know I have to change, like quitting smoking, stopping going to the pub.

Also I have to pay HMRC £5000 by the end of the month.
I posted on another thread, it's BR time for me.
Which I've been expecting for months but haven't been able to face.
Now the doodah is hitting the fan. I feel like putting everything into storage and running away. But I have a job to hold down and two kids whom I love so much, so I can't do that.

Sorry I'm just wallowing in self pity today. I stayed up all night and the tiredness has messed me up.

I found at that stage that a car boot was better than doing ebay. So much less soul destroying even with the teeny tiny prices you get back. After haggling at the end of the day and being determined to go home, you do get to the stage where you are almost happy to give it away! With ebay, always in the back of your mind is the hassle doing postage, paying fees, feedback, worrying about all the fraud stuff. (sorry, been major taken for a ride by ebay lately)

It is a big wake up call, and does make you think about where you spend money in the future. The determination that will come from this moment in getting the best possible deal will spur you on.

Have you had any late payments, defaults or CCJ's?

I think a debt management plan may be an option before bankrupcy. You just need to cut the spending and get everything down to the basics. I'll do a note on your SOA after lunch.

But I love my DVDs ... all bought for £5-£15 and now worth £1 each if that. What a waste. I have to have something to hang on to. In my position you could well say that it's too late for that. But I have to hang to something. About the only thing I've achieved in the last few years is building my DVD collection.

This probably sounds like the stupidist thing you ever read.

No late payments, ever. No CCJs, ever.

Car boot is a great idea. Thanks. eBay is as you say just a major hassle.
