Hewlett Packard Cartridges Thread

As I live in north Devon I was interested in the North Devon Computers Links. I use HP no56 cartridges. NDC have re manufactured ones at £11.49 which is more than I can buy new genuine ones for. Amazon is £11.49 but I know of cheaper prices just below £11. Originally in town when we had a Dixon's they were about £22 and £20 in Stationery Box. In the last few months prices on HP originals seem to have dropped a lot.
The point is that specifically regarding HP is that reading Computer Active and other magazines I've seen compatibles for the No56 regularly being advertised at several pounds more than someone else on the same page is offering genuine new originals for. I've seen compatibles at £15-£16. Why do they bother and who buys them?
Just wondering if anyone knows if this is peculiar to HP or not?0 -
I wonder if someone can help please - someone might have had a similar experience.
Cheapskate that I am, I've just bought and refilled and original black HP cartridge (NO.56) using a tesco own-brand refill kit for my psc 2110. This is the first time I've refilled a cartridge on this machine - but I used to do it all the time with my old Canon printer and didn't have any problems.
Having followed the syringe/correct hole instructions, and refilled as soon as the cartridge ran out of ink, my only problem is that the printer will not actually print.
Having cleaned the connectors, print heads & tried setting the alignment and auto cleaning functions - does someone know how to make the bl***y thing work. It's driving me mad.
ThanksI do hope you're telling the truth?0 -

Hi, I've got the same printer.
Was the cartridge empty for some time? If so the nozzles may be blocked. Try sitting it nozzle side down on some warm moist tissue. An hour or so should do, then try to imprint the nozzel on some dry tissue - you should see the nozzle pattern, if not repeat.
Please note that the printer will continue to think that its got an empty cartridge as it remembers the last two that were fitted.
If you visit http://www.misterinkjet.com/hp56reset.htm you can get some help. It worked for me.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks for the swift replies.
The BT shop is astoundingly cheap - my local W H Smiths has them for £22.99 each, Ryman £29.99, so thanks for this I'll order quite a few, know if you know how I can get free P&P at the the BT shop......
I'll try the paper thing as well, although the cartridge was refilled as soon as it emptied, printed about 1/2 a page after I refilled (which then went a bit stripey) and stopped.
I'd like to be able to refill as ditching the cartridge seems such a waste. Any further suggestions still welcome.I do hope you're telling the truth?0 -
Very, very cheap. I've been able to get them on-line around £11 for some time but even adding on delivery these are very cheap.
I'm still intrigued though with HP cartridges. As I mentioned in my earlier post, for some time you have been able to get original no56 cartridges on-line for around £11-£12 inc P&P yet they are still £20 - £22 in most shops. I know we expect on-line to be cheaper but this is a huge difference. Also the on-line price has fallen very sharply over the last couple of years whilst the price in shops has remained static.
I have noticed that the packaging on these cartridges varies as does the cartridge number with "ae" etc being added on to the end of some. They are the same cartridges with the same amount of ink. I wonder if some are imported on the grey market or something? Can't help but think the on-line retailers have found a different source of supply.
How BT are doing them at under £6 is beyond me though.0 -
