£5 per month on the Premier Direct Current Account, nothing on the Premier Current Account.
According to http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/current-accounts/interest-rates-and-fees/premier-current-account.aspx#7 the Premier current account has exactly the same £5 underfunding fee.
is it 5 pounds for each month missed or if you miss do they start charging 5 pounds per month forever after?
You're only charged the £5 fee for the months* in which you fail to credit at least £500.

    * Not sure if it's statement months or calendar months.

My husband & I have just decided to move to A&L for the cash. Hubby wants a new bike to get to work which will cost £300 which we don't have! He can't sell the one he has to raise funds until he gets a new one so....

We had two joint current a/cs at another bank. I took my name off one, his off the other .. hence two sole c/A's.

I got a family member to recommend me, £25 to him, £25 to me.
I then got £100 for opening - running total £125

I then reccommend my hubby, £25 to me, £25 to him = £175 so far
Then he gets £100 for opening

    TOTAL £275 :D

I have since recommended 1 more friend (you can do up to 5) = £25 more

TOTAL £300 so technically a free bike, YIPPEEEE !!!!! - and an old bike to sell to fill up the coffers.

We just have to wait until all 'free' money is collected and then apply to turn accounts into joint ones. We have already done this 4 times over the years and it works a treat! A little bit of a hassle, but not so much so that it prohibits doing so.

Well A&L have made the 1st screw up... and I've had the account open less than two months.

They are currently in the process of switching my direct debits over from my old bank as they insist on doing so in order to qualify for the incentive cash. On the 26th of this month they refused to pay a direct debit for my Halifax credit card despite there being plenty of funds available. I can't get a straight answer as to why they refused the payment from A&L's call centre - some say that Halifax didn't even try and claim it, some say it was claimed 'too early' (?)

Anyway, what's concerning me now is that I have technically missed a payment on my credit card and can now be charged, and worse still have a missed payment recorded with the CRAs.

A complaint letter is going in the post tomorrow so hopefully I can get it investigated and sorted out soon. Any more screw ups like this and I'll be taking my £100 and running straight back to Smile!!

    Regards

  • I have applied to A&L switching from Nat West. Just received the paperwork saying my application has been sucessful. My query is my NWest acc is empty with no DD/So's ( I was about to close it), but i gave A&L authorisation to switch anyway. As I understand it you don't have to have DD/SO's just give permission to switch. Has anyone else tried this????? I'll post the result if I get the £100.

I think you might not be successful in getting the £100...
You must switch all your direct debits and standing orders to the account using our Premier Switching Service, within 11 weeks of opening the account. You must ask to do this in your account application.

If I was you I'd credit some money to the NatWest account and rapidly set up a couple of SO's on the account (perhaps to your savings accounts or partner's accounts?) so there's at least something to switch.

If NatWest tell A&L that the account is 'dormant', ie no SO's/DD's set up on the account, then you're not technically switching.

Be a shame to miss out on £100.
  • Thanks for that YorkshireBoy. Think I will make a quick phone call. The T&Cs state that you have to 'pay in' £500 into the acc during the first 11 weeks. As I understand it I could pay this in over the counter in Branch. I need to pay into my ISA so was thinking of paying in then out again. I'm new to this but there must be some people out there who are really on the ball and take advantage these kind of offers!!!!!;)

    That's perfectly acceptable.

There are, and many of them frequent this website. :D

It's always handy to keep at least one current account ticking over ready for when these switching offers come along. That way, you can quickly set up a couple of dummy SO's as I said above and switch these.

That's awful! I've just made the switch and can't afford for that to happen to me.
Anyone else having problems a few months in?
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T
  • I have used the switching service from Natwest, and so far everything has gone just fine. All direct debits and standing orders have been switched communication has been good, and haven't had any problems with the phone service.

i too have signed up for this account and customer service so far has been great. have used the telephone service and set up online banking which is easy to use. communication from A & L has also been good.

RE switching though, they have sent me a list of DD's they believe i am currently paying out of account which i have asked to be switched - however one of them is no lonher active, and does in fact state "not used since March 08" and i therefore am intending to return the relevant form and say i dont want that one transferred, but do want all the others - just was a little concerned that that would mean i wouldnt still qualify for the £100 as wondered if you have to switch all DD's, which effectively i am doing as i no longer use all of them.

    hope that makes sense :S

    thanks x
