Our hotel used bottled water for washing salads, cooking veg & making ice.

But I have no way of knowing that about the restaurant on the Nile.

What I had was so bad, it was from food or drink, in quantity!!!!
I had awful cramping for two days as well.

Sorry but you just dont know that!

The tinest amount of bacteria can make you very ill.

There is no way of knowing if a 5 star is more hygenic than a 4 star

and like i said everyone I know who has been there has been ill!!

TBH the lunch in Cairo wasn't particulary appitizing, thats why I only ate half.

My instinct is it was there.

I didn't have problems ANY other time.

But would it really take 24 to show.

I've never had dodgy guts take 24 hours, but as I keep saying, I've never had dodgy guts like that before.

After that I wouldn't even have a coffee outside the hotel. The ONLY time in two weeks I was ill was 22 hours after my ONLY meal outside the hotel.

Yes but you have no idea what they used to wipe down their preparation surfaces or dishes etc or whether their waiters washed their hands after using the toilets etc when laying out your cutlery.

    OK fair point.

But lots of the reps live in this hotel, they don't just visit it.

    The head chef is French.

    No I don't....

IF it can take 22 hours then I KNOW it was the Cairo place.

If its sooner then it must have been breakfast at the hotel.

The Luxor Hilton is 5* and I know 2 different people who have gone down with the dodgeiest gut-rot ever after staying there. tbh, it's a little bit like Mexico - go to Egypt and expect to spend a reasonable proportion of your time on the toilet whilst you're there.

Yep 24hrs is not only quite possible but very likely, some bugs can take more than a week to show signs (according to a hygiene course my DH did a few weeks back).
As I said up there, we can uhm and ahh and pick at the details but the chances of you ever finding out where you got it from are practically nil (unless you happen to have kept some of each meal for analysis :rotfl:)

I've had dodgy guts before & soonish after eating I've had the results.

This this was very different for any dicky tum I've ever had before:eek:

Two days it lasted, pooing yellow coloured water & having very painful cramps after each time, almost like contractions of the guts:o

NO vomiting at all. Just a little drained & listless (not really surprising:rolleyes: ), but it was all in the intestines.
