  • We've resigned ourselves to leaving our house as soon as we have enough money for renting and then going BR soon after, unless the CCCS can offer miracles. After the quick conversation yesterday, she can see what we're thinking and said the 'BR' word before we did but wants to go through everything with us again to make sure she gives us the best advice.

With baby due in less than 6 months, we need to get sorted and settled quickly and try to minimise the upheaval for our 18-month old. I think new house and new baby at the same time could be overload for him.

Well in that case if it was me i would ring the courts and see what the waits like. I am just thinking, that one poster can not get in till sept.If you leave it till you see CCCS again then ring, the date of the birth is getting closer and closer. I would suggest you ring and make an appointment(if thats the system they operate at your local court) for a few days after your meeting with CCCS. Get your forms filled in and printed and take them with you so your advisor can check them over. Depends on ow soon you want to do things but renting must be your priority with the baby and toddler.D

  • Unless we hit the credit card with the food bills again next month, it's going to be at least 2 months before we have the money for the BR fees and we wouldn't have any money saved for the month's rent and deposit for another 2 months after that by which time the s/loan peeps could have forced our hand for non-payment.

I wish we'd acted sooner rather than trying to keep paying everyone for so long :(

Yes Ona we all say that once we take our heads out of the sand and face the truth. But it's no good looking at what we should have done,we are all wiser after the event. We all have, well most of us anyway, said we should have done it earlier. Hindsight is a wonderful thing girl. You are taking steps to improve your life and that of your children thats what matters.DX

Ona, you can withdraw cash on your c/card for BR fees, the OR won't mind this, or if you have enough you could use your c/card for the deposit on a rental.

  • A few months ago, I phoned the Debt Advice Trust but then ended up going with CCCS. I phoned them again today with my old ref no only to find out they'd need to take the info again as it had been more than 3 months so that's what I did (whilst sitting littl'un in front of the telly).

The long and short of it is that they agree that BR is our best bet but that there is no rush to leave the house as we will be granted a grace period of 12 months because we have a child living in the house and it would also be an infringement of our human rights. Does that sound about right? It would be very useful for saving money if we stopped paying now but got to stay here for a while longer to save up a decent pot.

I was also reassured that despite the default notices, it will still be a little while before the CCJs happen as the collection companies are given time to try and get the funds. Even if we do receive a court summons, we could just go along to court and say that we are planning on filing for BR anyway, in which case, the judge (apparently) often decides to just tackle all of the debts at once rather than individual CCJs.

I'm feeling reasonably chipper this morning, as much as I can be in the circumstances, although I did have a major crash last night but think I needed to. Too much bottled up isn't good for the pregnancy and I felt a bit better for it.

I've got a phone no. for the CAB solicitors to see if we can have legal aid for the BR but the current plan is to stay with CCCS. I've got a ref no if we decide to go with DAT and get referred through them instead.

Next step is to phone the court and see what the current wait is like and maybe book ourselves in if there's a long lead time.

Hmmm... this seems to be turning into a bit of a diary.
