After booking most of our summer US holiday with Priceline I got a bit over confident and totally messed up on a Vegas booking and ended up with the Riviera for $90. Checking with kayak.com showed it available cheaper elsewhere so I called Priceline and envoked the price guarantee which brought it down to $70. I consoled myself with the thought that $70 for a weekend night was excellent but was still annoyed with myself until I checked in. Hotel was nicer than I expected and they upgraded me to a full suite with balcony.
I don't think Priceline is especially good for Vegas-although very good for most of the US and the UKI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Looking back through my Priceline trips I've booked Heathrow Manchester (x2) New York (x3) Cleveland Anaheim Salt Lake City Provo Cardiff amongst others and this is the first time I wasn't satisfied from the off at what I'd booked.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I have had 2 major successes a couple of years ago - the Le Meridian in montparnasse in Paris £45 per night double room! (room only) FYI - I tried to book an extra night direct with them fot the night before my stay and they wanted £180! Also the Grand Hyatt New York next to grand Central Station £55 per night for double room! My tips would be to be VERY specific about your areas investigate them thoroughly - and I only ever go for 4* and above - some ropey hotels can be classed as 3* but 4* unlikely to be.0

- Destination: Kensington
- Type of accommodation: (e.g. five star hotel) 4 star hotel
- How many extra daily bids did you have available: didn't look, to be honest
- How much were your 2nd/3rd etc & final bids: oops, didn't bother
- And then write your Priceline hotel booking story
I had nearly booked the Copthorne Tara Kensington at £95.00 through laterooms.com (instead of the £225.00 rack rate), but then decided to have a go in that area and others on Priceline. I put in a bid of £45 (£57 including taxes and service charges), which was accepted and I was given the Copthorne Tara. Yay!0 - Destination: Kensington

Destination - Washington DC
Type of accommodation - 4* hotel
First Bid - £60
Hotel won - The Madison, A Loews Hotel
Hi all,
First time ever using priceline & am totally chuffed to have "won" the Madison Hotel. :j
Did a little bit of research on betterbidding.com & had a strategy all planned out incase my bid was rejected, could have had another 4 re-bid zones. However, my very first bid of £60 was accepted, so total for 3nights including tax was £211. Checked the Madison website & the same stay would have cost me approx £390 so i feel i got a good bargain. Although im starting to think "should i have bid lower?!" ha ha!
Was a little bit nervous about booking blind, but will def use priceline again.

Destination - London
Type of accommodation - 4* hotel
Hotel won - Hilton Hyde Park 3 nights. £50 per night (total £179 inc taxes)
Hilton web site last night for same weekend £307
(no availability on the sale offer)
Bid over 2 nights
Started 4* at £42 Marble Arch/Bloomsbury got counter offer of £57
Added at £44 Nottinghill/Bayswater
Added at £46 Mayfair/Soho
waited 24 hours
started again with 4* Marble Arch/Bloomsbury £46 again counter offer £57
Nottinghill/Bayswater £48
Mayfair/Soho £50
offer accepted. :j
Hotel in good location.
Right on central line (red one!), buses in all directions to all parts of London. Good restaurant area & shopping centre around the corner if you dont want the hustle & bustle of Oxford St. Tour buses from outside (if thats your thing). Hyde Park opposite .0 -
Destination - London - area 6 Mayfair/Soho
Type of accommodation - 5* Luxury
Hotel won - Grosvenor, Park Lane £108 + £22
Rooms normally about £249, special offer £189 available
Tried £65 and then £75 next day.
First time panic - ignored £189 offer and then got a £108 counter offer - annoyed with self for missing chance to bid again (only spotted counter bid screen when going through internet page history! I'd recommend not using Chrome browser for Priceline)
Had a lovely time in the Park Room munching down Anna's Tea (I don't think she found out) - but still reeling from the cost.
However, hotel is worthy of its 5* luxury status and I do feel somewhat refreshed from my break, aaah! And We Will Rock You was terrific!0 -
Followed the advice and have booked two nights at above 4 star for just under £80 night inc taxes and fees. Dates 8 and 9 March.
(International Womans Day is 8th March) get out of jail free card for those who miss out on Feb 14)
Anyway, room rates are circa 225 euros but direct hotel offer is about 180 euros with breakfast.
I was happy with any 4 star so started at £55 in zone 1 and then just kept adding 2-5 £ with 1 extra zone at a time.
20 mins and 4 zones later had base bid of £70 accepted which equals £78 with the add ons.
I am quite happy.
Still I pose the question - Did I hit lucky first time or could I reasonably have expected to do any better?
We will buy the Paris Visite transport card so any good hotel works for us.0 -
Destination - London - area 6 Mayfair/Soho
Type of accommodation - 5* Luxury
Hotel won - Grosvenor, Park Lane £85 + 19.03 = £104.03
Rooms normally about £249, special offer £189 available
I started the bidding at £80, then selected another area which i knew had no 5* hotels in and then bid again for £85
Really happy as it is a present, just the hope then hotel lives up to its name.0
