Just a warning about my booking which I reported below. I have been in touch with the Hotel directly to try and get a non-smoking room, first of all by email a month ago, which was never replied to, and then by phone this morning.

The hotel has absolutely no record of my reservation, or any other reservation for those dates made through Priceline.

They cannot do anything and it's up to Priceline to sort it out. Their Customer Relations person is on the case, but it could take up to 2 business days for them to get back to me.

I am very worried - we're going on Thursday (my birthday!) and I know for a fact that the hotel in question doesn't even have any rooms available now for one of the nights we were meant to be there.

    • How many extra daily bids did you have available: I only bid once!
    • How much were your 2nd/3rd etc & final bids: Started at £35 and to my surprise this was accepted immediately!
    • And then write your Priceline hotel booking story I didn't do much research into this one - I just felt like having a bit of a play to see what I could get between meetings at work! To my shock, my first bid of £35 was accepted for a 3 night stay for 2 people in Brussels around Valentine's day. The hotel we have been allocated is the NH Atlanta Brussels which wouldn't exactly have been my first choice, but with a total price for 3 nights of £120 incl. taxes, it is a LOT cheaper than ANYTHING else we were even considering on hotel comparison websites (we were expecting to pay around £200 for the 3 nights in a 4* hotel, even including any special offers we could get).

Do you have the booking reference that PL gave to you?

Did you book thro PL UK-their CS should sort it out TODAY-not 2 business days!

I do have the booking reference, yes, not that it meant anything to the hotel in question. I rang the CS UK number and (eventually) got put through to an aget in America, thankfully it was a freephone number though. I have followed up with an email asking them to get their asses into action!
  • 4* Hyatt Regency Century plaza in LA. 2 rooms, 2 nights £335 instead of £653 with expedia!:j
Started at £58 worked up adding areas with no 4* hotels.
  • I needed an overnight stay in Coventry and tried to see what I could find with Priceline. I could however find nothing on the web about Priceline successfuls bids for Coventry, so I pretty much had to go in Blind. My research however revealed some info that I'd like to share.

Based on the single zone they were offering, the hotel star ratings they had and a bit of work on google maps, I pretty much knew the hotel I was going to get before I won the bid. It ended up being a case of getting it at the lowest price possible.

Its the Holiday Inn Coventry M6 J2 and it is the only hotel you can get, if you want to name your price. It is a 3 star hotel and that is all there is. The only star options being offered are 2 & 3 star but they've only got the 3 Star Holiday Inn.

I exhausted the 2 bids I could have with £25 & £30 bids that were rejected. On the 2nd day when I made a £33 bid, I was given the option to try again if I'd increase my bid by £9. I knew I was close, decided to meet them half way and had a bid of £35 accepted.

With taxes, the total price came up to just over £46, although from the invoice I got at the end of my stay, PL only paid the hotel £39.

The price on the hotel's website was £59.

This wouldn't be the highest saving I'd made through PL but it was a saving anyway x
  • £39.75 on holiday inn friends and family rate

  • £39.75 on holiday inn friends and family rate

I am guessing that as I do not have any friends or family working for Holiday Inn, I won't be eligble for that rate.

  • Destination: London
    Accommodation Type: 4 Star
    Bids: £45, £50, £53, £55

I got the Hilton London Kensignton with a £55 winning bid and a total price of £69.74

This would be the highest price I've ever paid per night for a hotel room through PL, so I'm not sure whether to regard it as a brilliant success or not. One my first day of searching I got up to £60, which wasn't accepted. So I suppose I should be pleased with the price I finally got it for on my second day of searching. The room was going for £109 on the hotel's website.

This would be the first time I'm bidding for London Hotels, so I'll thank someone to tell me if my winning bid is reasonable compared to average winning bids for a 4 start hotel in London.

Take a look at http://www.betterbidding.com/ and http://biddingfortravel.yuku.com/ I never make a bid on Priceline before checking out these sites to see what has been won and at what price.
