You can open any Barclays account with a UK issued passport or a photo driving license (full or provisional) under our ONEDOC policy.

Also, I imagine most banks work along the lines that we do. If you apply for our most basic account, we don't run a full credit search on you, but we do check for previous instances of fraud, high amounts of bad debts written off, etc. and we may decline you for that. There are some people who just shouldn't even have the most basic of basic accounts, sadly.

thats really strange about Yorkshire Bank... cos I went in there today and they rejected me - I think they ARE credit checking people!!

Yes, I have read elsewhere on here that Yorkshire Bank have recently changed their policy.

A pity, as it really was the best option for the discharged bankrupt. I just hope that they won't be looking to close my account!

I agree BarclaysManager, but in this case it isnt even my fault...!!!

Whats so strange is I do actually have a full current account (Premier, not basic) with A&L, ran and funded correctly other than going overdrawn twice (once for a couple of quid, once for 34 quid due to their stupid charges when I wasnt paid) and now I cant even get a basic account - it stinks!

  • I am currently on a debt management plan with Payplan, is there anybank, excluding Yorkshire Bank, that would give me basic bank account with no overdraft at all but with full debit card as I cannot use my co-op electron or Natwest solo at the Railway Station, or to get cheap rail tickets from my local train company online etc?

    Thanks, Tally

  • Does anyone know a Bank that will consider opening a current account from a discharged bankrupt . I was discharged in February 2006 and have a Halifax Easycash account but they will not consider an upgrade until six years after discharge. All I am after is a cheque book really , don't need an overdraft facilities.
    Thanks

I managed to open a Citibank Current Account in Dec 2006, I was bankrupt in May 2003 and dischrged May 2006 (three years until discharge because that was the length of bankruptcy in Scotland back then.

They issue a Visa Debit card and cheque book on request with their Access current account. Worth a try.

Or try Alliance and Leicester Premier Account I managed to get with them the other week and a fair number of people on this forum have as well even with poor credit histories. Again this account comes with Visa Debit and cheque book.

    Good luck!

Applied just now (didn't think I'd get it) Got an email to say 'we'll let you know in 24 hours' and then a nanosecond later, a Dear John!
