Another important factor the article does not address...
If you move to Tiscali and then want to move back to BT (or another provider that uses the BT line) the reconnection fee is £124.99 since when you move onto Tiscali's systems you will lose your BT line.
You must look at this before you even think about moving:

Here are a couple of typical Tiscali stories from these very forums:

Gosh! and similar shocking words...
Right, I will not be going with Tiscali. Looks like Talk Talk is the one.
My heart would never stand all the hassle mentioned above - I
just have to have a quiet life....and free phone calls! Now, please,
don't anyone tell me that they have had trouble with Talk Talk.
I got here from a different forum. Have to find my way back now.0 -

My sentiments exactly!
I'm just sticking with Tesco at £17.79/month - pricely when I consider I have to also pay BT their cut too
But Broadband is one of those needs that I'd rather not chop and change around until I'm sure of a good deal AND good service.
Tesco have been fine (touch wood) since they inexplicably disconnected me for 2 months last year...
Maybe Sky BB... IS there a forum for Sky BB customer feedback on here (or elsewhere) anyone know? That window's cracked on both sides!!0 -

Unofficial Forum for users can be found here: http://www.skyuser.co.uk/
I am told that Talk Talk are improving after a bad start. They have a Forum where their geeks hang out helping people. see: www.talktalkmembers.com0 -
well I've been with talk talk a month now and have to say am fairly impressed and I am a tough cookie to please believe me!!
All calls, BB and line for £16 a month for 18mths (Thats if you sign via quidco or its about 70p a month more)
I don't think martin would deliberately recommend a bad company. That's why i put the post on.I am surprised he has not been alerted to it yet though.
When I think how close I came to actually switching the whole phone line etc to tiscali, I shudder!!!! I only cancelled it a few days before the go live date.I can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -
:money: Try http://www.saynoto0870.com for an alternative number.
I found 0845 3620344 for the Tiscali Tech Support line (0871 2223311).
Cheaper?
Thanks but it is still 5p a minute (plus vat probably) only the numbers beginning with 01 or 02 are free with my talk talk package, and I would likely be in a queue ages and then spend ages trying to explain to imbeciles who dont understand. My dad has rung and rung and he said noone ever understands him, he has to repeat himself. I am not in any way racist, but why do these companies have clear sounding English people on freefone numbers to sign you up, then Indians in an exchange in Mombai or somewhere who don't understand a word you say on a premium rate number once they've pulled you in? Just as I struggle with a broad Scottish accent I cannot understand someone who speaks very fast in a foreign accent.
Another plus for talk talk, I rang to set up my direct debit. Free from a talk talk line and she was English!!! I could understand herI can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -
And £100 cashback from quidco if you sign up for TalkTalk broadband at the moment through quidco which makes them MUCH cheaper than terrible Tiscali.0

Also had problems with Tiscali last year and earlier this year. They threatened to suspend my account for not paying the bill.
The bill is paid monthly by direct debit without fail.
They suspended account four times in 6 months.
They cannot grasp the content of e-mails and I did not want to ring the 0870 number again - having tried that once! I am fortunate that I have a fax line that I can use - which is still BT.
I obtained their various normal telephone numbers from the Say No to 0870 Numbers site.
Telephoned their head office and ASSURED THEM I HAD USED THE 0870 NUMBER - they said it was impossible but I said HOW WOULD I KNOW THEIR HEAD OFFICE NUMBER!!!!! so I must have used the 0870 number mustn't I!
(In hindsight I must have been mistaken about which number I used!!!!!)
They put me through to the 'high resolution' department - fairly helpful and paid £15 (deducted from bill) as recompense.
The amusing thing is that this ploy worked four times - £15 + £20 + £20 +£15
Another ploy used was to send Tiscali an 'official invoice' for Professional Services/Time' in rectifying their Direct Debit account problems.
OK they didn't pay the invoice but someone telephoned me to find out what it was - so I used their call to speak to their Billing Department about my problems.
Touch wood, all the problems with the account then stopped.
Still keeping my fingers crossed.0 -

How much?????Bummer!I only got £40!! I'm miffed now!I can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -
I have to say it's as broad as it is long....There are problems with pretty much every company out there. I have been with Tiscali for 6-7 years and the only problem I've had was when we moved house and transferred the service...but we did move 180 miles away, so could be a little forgiving....
If you change your line to Tiscali, TalkTalk or any of the LLU companies, BT will charge you £125 to take the line back, so this is not unique to Tiscali-held lines unfortunately. This is one reason I'm not ready to give up BT line just yet...see how the OFCOM stuff gets on this next year.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0
