Just got Martin's latest email...
I know this is a money saving forum but there's more to ISP access than price alone... no?

Personally, I've been with Nildram for years. It's been taken over by Tiscali and is already going rapidly downhill, to the point that I'll probably change and choose someone else.
Don't let price be your only consideration when choosing an ISP!
URGENT! New cheapest unlimited broadband deal at just £11/months. Updated Article
Until the end of May, Tiscali* has a promotion that you can get its broadband package for £4.49 for three months followed by £12.99, averaging out at £10.87/month. With this package you can, within reason, download all the films, music, software you want without going over your allowance. As its less than a quid more than PlusNet* which has a relatively restricted 1GB download limit, it’s a good deal. Yet if you’re an o2* mobile users you can get it’s unlimited package for £7.50/month. The other thing MSE fails to mention is that if you take the £4.49p bundle, your line rental must be with BT. Tiscali want provide a new line and at the very least you have to agree * to CPS your telephone calls to Tiscali Talk, and unless you buy an expensive £7.99 amonth 24/7 call bundle your be on the Free Weekend Call Package with the expensive peak/evening geographical calls, and the expensive 0845/0870 calls.

*After you enter phone number to sign up you have to agree this.
"I understand that with this package Tiscali will provide my telephone calls as well as my broadband. "0 -
Completely agree with the above posts. I migrated from AOL to Tiscali last Thursday. Since then the broadband hasn't worked. I've spent 3.5 hours on the phone to their 0871 technical support and have been promised numerous call backs - none of which have happened.
I am giving them till tomorrow to sort things out after which I will ask for a MAC. I cannot afford to spend any more time or call charges on a service which does not work.
Tiscali are awful.0 -
I agree with the previous posts about there being more to broadband than price. I've been with Tiscali for just over two months and it has now cost me over £90 in calls to the 0871 techline. Every day my broadband goes off for varying lengths of time and my TV (which is also with Tiscali) comes and goes as it pleases. I have now spent more time on the phone to Tiscali about my broadband than I have using it. It's only a good deal if it works...and Tiscali doesn't!0

I've now got my MAC and am leaving Tiscali after less than a week. Broken promises, lies, rudeness, expense...and an internet connection that worked fine before Tiscali but since they have taken over hasn't worked at all.
They are a disgrace.
I really wish MSE emails didn't recommend things without the warning that Tiscali have the worst reputation for a major ISP. as has been said, its not just about price. Its very expensive if it doesn't work!0 -
Hi,
I'm new to these forums but felt I had to let you know of my experiences.
Following advice on how to save some money I moved from a perfectly good ISP to Tiscali.
DISASTER.
Yes I'm saving a few £ per month on my subscription costs, however :
a) At peak times the broadband grinds to a halt where it didn't before. The result of this is that everything takes twice as long to do.
b) The service quality is awful - resulting in many expensive hours on hold to their support department (expensive NOT only in actual telephone costs, but also Expensive in terms of my time).
Come on Money Saving Expert - we all like to save money but not at the expense of our sanity and hours of our free time. To make matters worse I'm now tied in to a lengthy contract.
Surely this is a False Economy?????
I would have thought that prior to 'bigging up' a service like Tiscali, this website would have done their homework???
In some cases it shows that the old saying still rings true ..... "You get what you pay for".

Have dumped Tiscali after no broadband for 6 weeks. Had to go back to BT and agree a 12 month contract. Do not intend to let Tiscali get away with their dreadful service. They do not reply to letters so a formal complaint is winging its way to CISAS claiming damages and asking them to report Tiscali to Ofcom for breaching their conditions of service - faults will be rectified within 48 hours!!!0

Yes, I will be doing the same. Bottom line is that I will now have to pay more than I had contracted for. Over the course of a year this equates to £90. I will also go to arbitration.0 -
I think this proves our theory guys - going to Tisali - regardless of how little it costs, is not a shrewd move.
